    My thoughts on the Raptor...

It's built by a company with zero moral fiber that is engineering and mechanically incompetent, sold by dealerships that are owned and run by lying scumbags that are no better than dog shit in the gutter and serviced by alleged technicians who are the type to attempt inserting a square peg into a round hole until the second coming.

So in a nut shell...."Hell nah I'll keep my Tundra!"

My 2001 required $4k+ in repairs before it hit 92k on ODO. Must not have the POS 5.4l worst motor Ford ever made. I changed tranny fluid every 30k so probably only reason it held up. When it spit #6 I fixed and sold.

I've driven the new Raptor. Even jumped it by accident. (Roads in Baja are fun) This one was fully loaded with leather seats, cameras everywhere, all the bells and whistles. The motor has some real get up and go. It's moves. That said, for the money I'll stick with my Tundra.

If the prices of both trucks were the same, I'd get one. But it's not the same truck by far.

That sucks, sorry to hear that.
I'd say the difference in problems we hear about though is we hear them significantly more about one than the other. Disproportionately so also.

I didn’t have the 5.4l, but my buddy has a 2000 5.4l, bought new and is still driving today with zero repairs. All depends I guess.

My Ford 150 was great. Until it ate itself at 78k. Was the V6 and they had a problem with the end caps on the rods. Went to start it up for work on Monday morning and it puked oil everywhere, because oil filter was full of shavings. Luckily they replaced it under warranty because I bitched about a strange noise right before warranty was up.

Those two years were apart of the last great generation of trucks from ford. I had a 99 f150, it even fixed itself once. Great truck that i loved.

After 2001(or whichever year they ended that gen) ford seemed more interested in putting out mass volume and poorly tested platforms. They moved on to new platforms (taljing about f150's)and abandoned alot of ppl with motors that were highly prone to failures without even releasing an improved version of the parts.

Like, good lord cam phasers? Screw that shzzz.

Ford is uncontested in sales when it comes to the truck market. Hell, the f150 is the sales leader of all vehicals sole in the US (at least they were). So ill conceed that alot of complaints are due to there being such a large volume of f150's on the road, but so many of the issues seem to be related to specific parts/systems. That hints at it being prone to a failure.

Edit: 5.4l 2 valve wasnt to bad, but the 3 valve was a nightmare if i remember right.

They are only the "sales leader" because they lobbied to get chevy and gmc counted as seperate units... even though they are the exact same except for the trim level's

Pretty sure the f150 out sold the sierra and silverado combined by a solid amount in 2018.
Unless you are refering to the current count for this year, but i dont know what those are atm.

Anything after 1997 was crap for ford. I mean they went to a reliable straight 6 to a 5.4 pile of crap the 5.4 supercharge back in the day was powerful but ford reliable went down the toilet. The 90s era for car industry's was hard they had limited experience with efi engines and epa was knocking on their door. But at the end of the day when you buy a ford the value of your truck is nothing compared to toyota because of reliability. Everyone knows the 5.4 is horrible and junk. Thats why they value them so low. I could buy ealy 2000s ford 5.4 for dirt cheap but i cant find a old Tacoma for under 5000. Anyway the 5.4 gets so sludge up from dirt and grim they block off oil ports and sooner than later boom!!! People are wondering why toyota did not change out our 5.7 engine in 3rd gen its because their so damm reliable and powerful. Oh and another 1,000,000 mile tundra has done it again so that makes it 2 one million tundra both using the 4.7

My father In law has a 2012 it’s pretty nice. Has had some minor issues leaking and the rear window seals tho and couple other small problems but I’d take a 6.2 over a pro anyway myself

Ferd builds a great raptor...but its not worth the $$ stick 30k into a TRD sport and it will kick its ass.

For the price of a craptor, you could build up a superior Tundra that, IMO, looks way better AND more reliable. I say this because there was a similar article I read years ago where a comparison was made between Jeeps and Hummers. It came down to "For the price of a Hummer, you could build a superior Jeep and have enough money left over to buy a truck and toy hauler to enjoy it around the country."

All this hate makes me laugh. Youz guyz are funny.

The Gen1 Raptor is a great truck. Ford tapped a market everyone else ignored and struck gold. I loved mine and havent had as much fun driving any other vehicle as I did in it.

I test drove one and all the features it had wasn't my thing. I wouldn't use most of them.

I am not a Toyota, Ford, Chevy blah blah fan boy so I test drove a lot of cars and trucks before buying the Tundra Pro.

They are all nice trucks. I just liked the Tundra.

None at all. And I literally beat the shit out of the truck. I put 135K miles on it before I sold, easily 5k of those offroad thru the desert driving it like it was designed to be driven (Anza Borrego, Ocotillo Wells, Death Valley, Reno runs, Barstow to Vegas and back, Mojave, Texas Raptor Runs... to name a few)

PS: One of my favorite memories was down in Death Valley, around the Racetrack Playa. Anyone who's driven that knows how washboarded the trails in and our are. We were cruising at a good clip (35ish?) floating over the ruts and passed a Jeep doing 10. Guys inside gave us the finger as we drove by (friends of ours) and when we all grouped back up, they stepped out and threw up their lunches. Laughing at them we said "lets do it again!". They said "F*$k you. Give us a ride and tow that (Jeep) out." :D

Only 35ish. The sweet spot is a bit faster than that. Well that is what I was told.
