Should I put side steps on my new Tundra?

Just got my truck definitely putting new wheels on it don't know if I should put side steps on it or not

 

You going to lift it? Got a wife, kids or girlfriend. .. or all of the above? Heh. Even stock they are nice for climbing into the truck. My wife is pregnant and it sure would be hard for her or my elderly mom to get in. When I lift it, I will really be glad to have them. If you go off-road, just keep in mind, ifyou crunch one, you will very likely have body damage too. I like mine though.

 

I'm doing a leveling kit got a girlfriend and my dad and other older guys that complain about getting in it up at camp I looked at some just don't know I'm my doing much 4wheeling just going up to my cabin and there it's just dirt roads

 

its nothing to stress about, just remember it if you ever do have to climb over something. you should probably get some then. look for used ones to save. people are always taking them off and selling them.

 

I went with some OEM plastic covered aluminum steps that I picked up used. I think they protect the lower doors from debris and make it easier for the wife, kids, etc.

As far as a step is concerned i think they have great clearance compared to some others. If I plan to do any off roading as the truck gets older I will switch to sliders.

I like my Toyota Stepboards. They protects the side of your truck from door dingers. These things are very strong. Once I clipped a Honda Civic. Honda's front end was shattered, but one stepboard had damaged plastic piece (few $$ to replace from Toyota).

 

My wife is vertically challenged so step-boards were a must. But after installing them I found that it was much easier for me to get into as well. I am 5'11" average height.

 

It appears to me as if you have some options. A lot of factors to consider in this decision but I can say that I'm pleased with my NFab Durasteps. Got them on Amazon for about $500. The first set had a dent which ended up chipping some of the paint off, but the seller was quick to get me a new set and execute the RMA process.




The only issue I've witnessed with these is that they stick out about an inch past my fender wells. With that, I have to use a bit extra caution in getting into my garage and getting out as the fit is already slim. Haven't rubbed yet but keep that in mind during your evaluation of whether or not to buy running boards.

I just got my S5 Dbl Cab, and they were a must for me. My wife wears high heels, so she said get them. I got them, and they really change the appearance of the truck

 

I have the wide SS steps from Toyota. I had them on my last Tundra which had 155,800 miles when I traded it and the step rails protected the rocker panels. I had no chipped paint.

So I put them on my 2017 Tundra plus they look pretty cool!

Recently while working on the rust on the bracket of the OEM step boards I took a picture of the truck without steps. You could compare to the picture in my signature. I like the look of the truck with step.

Yes side steps look awesome and add function and protection for your truck.

 

Without steps the truck looks taller, which I like. The power boards would be great to keep that look and provide a step only when needed. Sliders are great for protecting the rockers from off road injuries and door dings. For me, sliders make the most sense. Though not the best as a step, they offer protection that I fear I'll need,,,,, sooner or later. I wanted power boards for the "bling" factor but after receiving a couple unwarranted door dings I want something that will inflict a little pain to errant doors. I'm just not a fan of the OEM steps. Removing them was the first thing I did when I brought the new truck home.

I didn't have steps when I got my truck but after seeing a few door dings in it I got them right away.

 

Good move..I added em as soon as I took delivery, never looked back. I still watch where I park. The average car door will hit my SS side step way before paint.

 

My steps saved my door the day after I got the truck, the BMW didn't fair as well.
I would like to replace them with sliders as long as they still protect the doors.

 

I did because of my daughter and parents. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have any!

Get AMP power steps if you want it hidden.
I went with GoRhino RB10's as they tuck up against the truck pretty good and act as dint protectors
