For those with fender flares... tires flush out or tucked in?

I installed bushwacker pocket style with +16 offset wheels wrapped with 285/60 R20 BFG. I found out that the tires are still tucked inside the flares, which I'm not really pleased. Personally I prefer a more aggressive look with the tires to be even with the flares, or flush out a little bit. Want to know different opinions on this one. With flares, flush out or tucked in?

 

Flush is my opinion.
Try 1.25" wheel spacers.

Also a fan of flush here. However I'm not a fan of spacers. I think I might either return the flares for a OEM non-extended style or return the wheels for a new set with less offset. If I cannot return both of them then I guess I'll just live with it...

 

I actually love the flares tbh. Thinking return those wheels for another set with less offset

 

I have +25 XD wheels and bushwhacker flares. They are pretty flush. The wheels pushed my tires out more than I thought. I’d take a pic but pulled the flares off yesterday to wash out all the winter road salt and hadn’t put them back on.

 

What size of tires are you running bro?

I think I had +18 offset at the time and really wanted some so I ordered them up stuck them on and it just lost the aggressiveness I took them off and sold them now I’m at 0 offset which I think might look ok with some flairs. If I could find a good deal on some color matched ones I might pick them up and try it again.

Yeah bro. 0 offset with flares will look sick for sure! That's the combo I'm fancy right now. Fuel has some nice looking wheels with +1 offset. If I can get the current set returned I might pull the trigger

 

Here they are with no flares if this helps any.

 

Mine looks similar without the flares. If the wheels are not able to return, it might take time for me to get used to the current setup. Honestly, is not that bad.

 

All flares will rub through the paint.
Tires that stick out past the flares will cause rock chips, and dirt.
I value function over form.
Your setup looks really good to me.

 

Mine are RG 285/70/18's on a Fuel +1 offset with Bushwackers.

 

Mine are flush. Defeats the point of having flares IMO if your tires are sticking way out beyond them.

 

Looks better with a more aggressive stance. I personally do not like the look of flares much less flares with tires tucked in.
I would look to a different wheel if you can get away without to much rubbing.

 

Thx for the advice bro! I started to think about wheel spacers but after read some threads about the cons of them I decided not to do it. I'll just get used to the current setup

 

Like your opinion! Indeed the flares serve more purposes of protecting the paints than giving the truck a badass look

 

I just called the dealer, and the wheels are not returnable if they are mounted. Not considering the spacers for sure. I think I'll just get used to the current setup. Tbh it's not that bad

 

Update: The wheels cannot be returned, and I don't want any spacer or getting another set of flares. I'll just keep this setup since it's really not that bad.

Also, I noticed that the 2 left and 2 right tires are not equally aligned against the flares. I was told it is common for nearly all trucks. Is that the case?

OP: I think your set-up LOOKS excellent, but it's a preference thing.

Never had flares before: are you saying that the flares touch and rub against the body [taking those places down to bare metal beneath the flare]?

That makes sense. I don't need any more rock chips. However, I have 275/65/20's at +18, and I don't have any problems.

 

Nitto RG 295/70R18 +18 and flush at the top. Without BW flares I was spraying the sides more and risking chips. What’s your side profile?

 

I'm getting extended flares soon to combat the road grime problem. I want them close to flush or it is wasted money. Black grime on a silver truck is not pretty!

 

I think I’m ok for aggressiveness, I’m going to black out the flare bolts though with Route66 kit.



If I were to do it again, I’d get the boltless ones. Maybe you can find those that are less wide so you are closer to flush instead of tucked?

Here is mine with +20 offset and stock flares 275/55R 20 tires.
They are almost flush which I like.

 

Yes the rubber moulding will get grit under it and rub the paint. Mine were on for a year and I have lines that have rubbed through in a few places.
I plan on getting some vinyl to cover it with and then I'll reinstall.

 

This looks clean and nice! Personally I prefer the more aggressive look hence the pocket style lol
