What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I believe all the 16" of this wheel come in 4.5". If you want 35s its better to go towards a 3.5", this gets your tire away from the frame but puts it in line with the body and pinch weld area.

An 8" wide wheel with 4" backspace is better for +/-285s but I didn't pick these wheels, they were a freebie.

Hmm. 285/75/17s do look good!! And they’re skinny so no worrying about rubbing the frame. Should be good with the 4.3”bs.

I went with the 295/70/17s because I wanted the STT Pros... they’re a little wider than the 285/75s but only 33.5 tall.

They look so much better than my 285/70 all terrains. Changed the trucks look and performance off road

 

Yeah the 35 I test fit was gonna require some good trimming / fire wall tubbing to get them to fit properly....

 

I'm just getting anxious to wheel it. We are building it differently so people love to doubt it. Probably once my brother gets kings on his 4runner we'll all go out and wheel to see what the Tundra can do. I have full faith it'll clear just fine now until king coilovers give me a little extra lift to help

 

I'm still planning to copy some of your bumpers style. Every time I see it I'm thinking about the bends on that lower bar.

 

Yeah i had to cut out the pinch weld. I've got some 1.25 inch spidertrax spacers I'm thinking about throwing on to make the 295s poke out a little more. But I'll likely need to trim some more.

 

Your only issue is going to be tight trails and turns.

 

You guys were supposed to to make it an easier decision for me, not harder!

I guess I'll wait until I install the suspension and see how much room I have to work with.

If Hand Model can run 285/75/16 for the past 20 years (even before 5100's) I'm pretty confident I can fit 285/75/17 without trimming much. I hope...


Those "thicc" 295's sure would look good though...

I'd definitely like to see how the 285/75r17s look. I've thought about going that route on the next set of wheels and tires

 

@Professional Hand Model according to TIS the 02s never had the option for a heated mirror. does your fuse box have a spot for a relay?

Doesn’t look like it has a spot. Not sure I’ll go through all the headache and cost of heated mirrors. I’m more curious as to what that (unused) connector does. Fester says its a PDI disconnect. What is it? And why disconnect it? Whats its function?

Cool deal. Thanks for that. I found some info on Taco forum suggesting a similar thing but the connector was in a different location than our Tundras.

Stoked on the TVIP info as collateral knowledge. Learned a few things as my settings were on basic all these years. I’ll be doing the auto lock/unlock setting with a key turn.

 

Operation TVIP a failure.

The online 25 page manual states for 2000 years and up. After a few unsuccessful attempts at basic reprogramming, I reconsulted my 4 page original hard copy manual that came with purchase and realized the limitations between paper reality and the Toy.com internet instuctions.

Takeaway: Still have lock/unlock function as always. I’ll investigate the control modules (which I believe are behind the glovebox) another day.

 

Today I reprogrammed my Tundra to lock/unlock the doors automagically.
I had no idea it was an option, but it is my preference living in a city. Woot. (well "Chirp" in this case.)

what change did you try & fail at? Auto lock just worked for my 2003.

 

Auto lock/unlock program failure. My 2002 hard copy instructions do not allow the option, but the Toy.com says its available.
