Replaced my spare with a full size one and I noticed these wear grooves from where the tire rested on the body supports. This was the first time the tire had been down in 5 years. I'm glad I didn't need to rely on it. Some of them are a lot deeper than they appear in the picture.

Good post. The spare on my wife's Rav4 loses most of its air every 2 years.

Also, people forget they have a shelf life. When I bought my 2002 back in 2016 the spare was original. Its not safe to drive on a 14 year old tire so when I replaced the tires I had discount tire throw one of the tires I was replacing on the spare rim.

I recently relocated mine to inside the bed, the rear of my truck is lowered and dropping the spare in an emergency would be a PIA if it was in it's normal location. The tire itself looks fine.

That's a good idea. I've been debating a couplethingsc but that is probably the easiest.

Yeah mine is there is now until I do some trimming to fit my full-size spare. I want the bed space though so I need to get it below.

The great thing about Toyota, well most trucks, is that it is SO EASY to check spare inflation pressure easily (especially for old guys). That ease of checking feature is very helpful since all tires just naturally leak. Left unchecked, they WILL be flat when you need them most.

The better plan is to have an aerosol can of sealant, and one of those small inflation compressors on-board if you're too old or too lazy to get down low to check them. Unfortunately, I am affected by both conditions, and don't want to be changing a tire on the side of the road. :(

Thanks for the hose idea. Think I'll have to do it, I've never actually dropped my spare yet.

Hmmm...I have never listened to the lyrics to that theme, uh, rather I don't remember seeing them on the SDH subtitles.

I had no idea (still not convinced) that he's gay; I can remember no homosexual behavior he's exhibited in the series. Not that it matters, I just saw him as a loner that knows he will ultimately have to do what needs to be done himself, accepts his irresponsible friends and family in spite of their flaws, gets little genuine appreciation from anyone including his government, and still get's his job done neutralizing incredibly bad outcomes with very little help from those that should be his backup. He doesn't know the meaning of "quitting": Swimming halfway across the English Channel, bullet wound in one foot, towing a heavy duffel in his teeth, "If I can make it halfway, I can make it." And, he always seems to have anticipated the evil plot twist without saying anything to anyone in advance to counter it all in the end.

:D Not that I'm trying to say I'm that guy. :D

Anyway, I'm old enough to be pretty dense and naive about the automatic creepy inferences of today; when any male figure around children is a suspected pervert, grandfathers aren't even beyond suspicion. Seems like every show you watch is silently or overtly broadcasting some LGBTQ rights message, and has been for years. If it bothers me, I vote with my remote.

So, a "therapy companion" is not a good-ole beer drinking, football-loving, Tundra-bud to share with when your wife is crawling up your azz, and your boss is about to write you up for sexual harassment of a female co-worker? (Hmmm...it does talk about "Stephen" having the goods on him, and if you are a "muscular handsome football guy", or a "muscular guy handy around the house", it wont matter if "you don't get the joke". Maybe "not getting the joke" isn't about nobody giving a rat's azz about anything important?)

    I am dense I guess.

I have a 2017. No way to manually check spare air pressure in the factory configuration. Needs to flip over. Likely will render chain (cable?) hoist a couple inches short. Have some 2X4's in the bed to lower spare onto once flipped. TPMS will allow spare to an unacceptable low pressure before triggering. Stupid. Beat stupid. Flip factory spare and check manually.

That's what I remember from my old 4Runner...the outside of the wheel, and the valve stem, was pointed UP when the spare is stowed as designed, and it seems like there was some reason for NOT flipping it.

I finally realized that I could position the spare with the valve stem to the rear, and after unpacking the little hooked articulated jack handle from the left rear quarter panel, the pressure could be checked by letting the chain down just enough to tilt the wheel down at the rear to access the stem. Too old and lazy for that now. :bored:
