    MaxTrax are so darn expensive!
I know they work great, but does anyone have any real experience with less expensive alternatives? Any examples on how you got out of a jam would be appreciated!

I've read several Amazon reviews of cheaper knock offs cracking and even breaking in half during first use.

I've seen sales on MaxTrax by some of or vendors from time to time. You could possibly contact one of them and initiate a group buy to save some $$. Then there's always the winch option.;)

Great idea!! Certainly won’t hurt to try! Only thing with winch is if there’s nothing for it to attach to! I envision being in Mojave without a tree or rock outcrop to tie into!
I know, my OCD thinking kicking in! Hahaha

Plenty of nifty options available for winching where there are no trees or other obvious attachment points. I do seem to recall a legit competitor to MaxTrax that wasn't a lot cheaper. I think there was a GB here for it.

I have a set off Amazon, dont remember brand know, can post later. I have used them a few times, once in a blizzard when I got high centered and also after getting stuck in deep sand. They work very well, imho some of the bad reviews are prob from user error.

I bought two sets of the X-Bull traction boards off of eBay.
I have used them in the snow this winter with good results.
Once with the tundra out in the woods, and once to help a Subaru in town.
Both times they had no problems. The Subaru spun his tires on them and only caused some minor scuffs.
I have not bridged them yet, so i haven't tested the flex.
I paid 59.99 a pair. Well worth it IMHO

The only drawback I see so far is they don't nest together very well, so if space is an issue.....

So does anyone make grousers that you can attach like this guy did? I know (obviously) 2x4 will do it but they make premade PBJ sandwiches also.

Smittybilt makes a version that are quite a bit cheaper than MaxTraxx. Decent reviews from what I've seen.
