Curious how this would compare to a custom tune through hptuners similar to what @1UPPER did. This is the next thing I'm going to drop $ on just not sure what route I'll go..

@OVTune I would like to inquire on more information on your tune. I currently have a Magnuson SC on my 17 FFV Tundra. I had the bully dog tune at first but it did not like my long tube headers. So I have since had an HP tuner, custom tune, bigger injectors and bigger fuel pump. The engine was running to lean with the stock injectors. From what I’ve been told the fuel rail system and injectors on the FFV are not ideal for a SC setup. That is one of the reasons I had to change the injectors.

    I have a few questions.
What kind of air fuel ratios are you getting on a FFV SC Tundra?
What have been your results for HP and torque to the rear wheels?
What kind of boost are you getting out of your program and setup?
What part of the country is your shop located in?
Have you tuned any other SC setups for the Tundra yet besides Magnuson?

Thank you for all your information on this.

Yes sir! After I did my SC on a FFV I started to find out there are a lot of tundra owners looking for the same answers. The numbers and performance are key. I really hope they can do all the great things they say for FFV owners.

I really want to get supercharged (2017 FFV), but don't want to have any issues after or need to fine tune the kit. I know your build is quite extensive, but do you feel the Magnuson kit and the Bully Dog tune that come with it are reliable and dependable as they come? Basically, I just want to purchase the kit and install as-is....do you foresee any issues with that?

The biggest possible concern for having a Magnuson SC and Bully Dog tuner is if you have long tube headers. I unfortunately installed long tube headers before my SC. Neither Magnuson or Bully Dog offer a tune for long tube headers. At the time I didn’t know that headers completely changes the tune and performance on a FFV tundra. I can’t personally tell you how well a FFV SC Tundra will perform with a Bully Dog tune on it. What I’ve found is guys are running to lean on the FFV setup. I did speak with both Magnuson and Bully Dog about these questions. They both agreed they don’t offer a tune for aftermarket headers. Make sure you run the correct air box as well. This is also important for tuning and getting the proper air flow.

I know if you add a methanol kit to your supercharger is extra protection for your super charged setup.

    I hope this information helps.

You’re probably best served by a custom tune on a dyno like you already have (I assume when you went HP and custom that it was done on a dyno). I don’t think any email tune is gonna help compensate for the variables in your build - it’s just too unique and there aren’t enough builds like yours to create a database of tunes for. It’s not really possible to say ‘here’s a tune for headers’ ‘here’s a tune for supercharger’ ‘here’s a tune for injectors’ and ‘here’s a tune for 2 out of 3 of those things’. They have to be measured on a dyno when upgrades are combined. That will take years and dozens of tunes to get right.

The FRS/BRZ market can get away with email tunes now for a wide variety of modification combinations, but that population of tuned cars is probably ten thousand times bigger than the Tundra market. And now 6 years old.

I’d love an off the shelf tune for our 2014 FFV that just takes some of the slop out of the stock tune, and takes advantage of the cooler E85 flame front. A little timing advance and fattened fuel curve would liven things up. I like the ability to switch maps on the fly so I can conserve gas on the way to a trail, and then flip it to fun mode while off road.

I appreciate your input from your experience.

Yes my setup had to be done on a dyno so they could tune for my SC specs.

It sounds like you got it done right. Can I ask what other things you found (if any) lacking besides the fuel delivery system? Are you tuned for premium or did they give you an E85 tune? There should be a metric shitload of power available with a long tubed SC running on E if it’s available in your area.

So after talking to various tuners and other FFV SC owners a few things I’ve found. Some people run across shifting point issues after the tune. Some have had the SC go into “limp mode” where the truck won’t build boost properly. Another thing some SC owners miss is using the proper spark plug. Magnuson will specs the proper spark plug to use. Before Pro Speed did my tune they asked my preference of E85 or premium gas. They did recommend the E85 setup for higher numbers. I elected to use premium because sometimes when I drive out of my area you can’t fine E85. My favorite thing about my current setup is driving on the highway at 80mph and my rpms is just below 2,000 rpms. It drives so smooth! An ethanol kit was another option I could haven done. On my next tundra build I’ll likely do a whole new fuel rail system, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, ethanol kit, Whipple SC, America Racing full Exhaust system and HP tuner. But I’m waiting for the 2020 tundra to release for that setup.

I believe the Whipple kit is coming out mid 2019 for the tundra. SDHQ has it on their website for a pre-order. I believe they were around $7600. Wonder what type of tuning they use and how that compares to the magnuson bully dog setup.

So is this a unit such as Cobb Tuning accessport (for Subaru’s, Evos etc) or just a reflash?

Also is this something I could have say my previous tuner from my STi’s tune? And is it fully tunable or just a flash w/ what you’ve listed on page 1 to be adjusted etc by you guys?

Lastly ... if it has all the tuning options/tables I’d assume it has features that can be disabled like many other flashes, and or standalones.. is disabling TSS feature an option as well?

Sorry for the late reply guys, we have been super busy with development. To answer your questions.
Kit info and prices are on our site but not available yet. People have asked us about a potential group buy so we are looking into that.

We do support the 2018 ECU as well including all of our features.
Additional features that only the 2018 ECU has:
    - Flash Protection - You cannot damage your ECU if a flash fails. Unplug mid way. Shut the truck off, etc. you can flash again right over OBDII. Zero worry.
    - 4D Table features (some logic we have also designed into the Tacoma 3.5L, which will be discusses further)
    - RAM Dumping ( LIVE Data read while engine is running) Used for more custom features and RAM packet manipulation (for upcoming features we are working on)
    - Reset LV / reset Memory (required for some learn values)

It depends on the setup of the truck, but we have not seen this with stock pulley and stock exhaust. (the need for bigger injectors). however when pushing it, it's absolutely something to consider. That is with the stock TRD blower, not the Harrop unit.

    - We aim for AFR to be in around 11.0 or in some cases slightly richer. This is actually in some cases a bit fat for a supercharger. However from data we have collected, temperatures are a huge factor in controlling cylinder combustion, and you can adequately control cylinder temperatures through running richer mixtures. This does not adversely affect performance like one would think. The big take away from this is we are not looking to chase big numbers, extracting every last ounce possible from the stock TRD blower. We understand these trucks go off-road, on road, tow, haul, etc, and the tune we develop must be safe in every aspect. it's possible to run a little leaner, and maybe pull an extra 10-15hp out of it. But when you're towing 5000lbs up a mountain in the summer, this can be dangerous. (although we have implemented our very own protection features).

Tuning a FFV is not inherently different than tuning a non FFV. Just differences in ECU logic / code architecture. The FFV doesn't require any special AFR that the non FFV does, etc.

Horsepower and torque specs will be posted on release.

Boost psi is relative to mods. What we see on a stock truck may not relate to another truck. The amount of boost psi you see is not indicative of how good the tune is, in my opinion. I'd wager that the more boost you are seeing on the same pulley the less power you are making, as you're increasing restriction.
For example you can see a boost pressure drop with VVT Tuning but power increase. You can also make PSI increase through cam tuning and lose power.

    SouthWest Virginia, near Tennessee.

We have not tuned the Harrop unit yet, the only other one I'm aware of other than the TRD/Magnuson unit. (with exception to some centrifugal which I wouldn't recommend anyway)

HP Tuners is a good platform for someone with extensive EFI Experience. However All of the custom features we offer are exclusive to us, through custom code, that is not available in HP Tuners. We do not recommend people by HP Tuners cables unless they have a tuner to go to or understand EFi Tuning and are willing to take the risks involved.

We develop the tune. We develop the custom, exclusive features, and then we dial in trucks that need it, on our calibration. this is not really different than taking your truck to a tuner with a HP cable.

    * All of the features outlined in our EROM 1.01 blog are custom wrote code by us and NOT available in any other tuning platform.

We know what causes this problem and it's already been fixed in our tune. It's alcohol density / content calculation in relation to the pump status. E85 will absolutely make higher numbers but stock fuel system will not support it.
With our flash you must use ONLY pump gas with the blower on a FFV truck.

Assuming you are talking about the issue with the truck going into limp mode, missing, running rich, etc after shifting in boost (especially near the limiter or when hard on the throttle), and you get a fuel pump CEL code.

our kit allows flashing and datalogging but it does not allow end-user tuning. you cannot modify the maps.

As long as the core components are done on a dyno so that the core tables are already done (valve timing, MBT/ ignition, fueling, etc) then I don't see how it cannot be revised via some datalogs.

This is what we do. We take our truck. Test it, develop core and primary tables for tuning, along side our custom code / features, and implement this into a package that allows the end user to datalog if need be and adjust it to their individual truck.
But to do an entire tune randomly from scratch via email is not good.

if your truck is stock + Blower then you can flash and go. Our Core map is Base + features (imagine like the TRD tune... there was no custom tuning from Toyota..)
and then our datalogger is in place for fine adjustments on trucks that need such adjustments. (long tube or even shorty headers, aftermarket intakes, etc)

We purchased a Flex Fuel truck specifically for R&D to make the absolute best calibration possible for this truck. We know the issues related to the FFV + S/C. People have been asking us for years. We see it all over facebook, many, many common complaints and no real solution. I don't think I have even seen any other company step up and buy a FFV Truck solely for that purpose.

Thank you, I think you will be very happy with what we have done. Our FFV Supercharged test truck has been testing out in the heat of the Desert (arizona, Nevada) testing under some extreme off roading conditions (temps 120+) to ensure our calibration works flawless.

We will have a big blog post on our site about the FFV S/C Calibration specifically very soon, with tons of data we have collected.

Very interested. I've been wanting to get the Magnuson since I purchased my truck, but after hearing about the issues people were having with the pinging on the FFV trucks I've withheld from buying the supercharger. Hoping this will be the solution!

will the tune be offered with the optional display feature that i saw mention of for other vehicles on your site? also am i understanding correctly if we have made minor changes (different pulley, gears, tires) that the tune can be datalogged for a tweaked to accommodate per truck?

Display feature? unsure of what that is.

sorry i wasn't clear. the bullydog type display screen to monitor criticals. i thought i saw it as an option for tacomas or maybe lexus on your site

All of this will be available with our Flash kit and HD Touchscreen handheld tuners coming soon.

maybe i'm mistaken the handheld tuner
    for a tuner/monitoring device?

We haven't decided yet if we want to offer a handheld type solution. Mainly because of limitations of what can be done with those. Our current software is much easier to use and comes with more features.
It might be possible for some trucks, but trucks that have superchargers / other mods will really benefit from our flash software w/ logging capability.
Not to mention our flash software is the fastest in the industry right now. Capable of flashing tunes in less than 1 minute. (roughly 40 seconds).

Can you tune also compensate/adjust for bigger tires as well? I’m on 37’s one my speedo is about 8-10 mph off.
