Looking for a tailgate ladder

Any suggestions for a 2018 crew tailgate ladder ?

 

Ladder or bed step? I've got the amp research bed step and am overall happy with it.

I am looking for a ladder actually. Something like this

But due to cables I heard some do not fit or work as intended. So was wondering if any one has installed a ladder yet

 

Just get an amp research bed step

 

The amp research bed step is a little pricey. I haven't found them for less than $179

 

A ladder is going to cost a little bit too, and be dramatically less practical

 

I personally thought about the bed ladder and amp step option. As someone who is slightly ptsd from falling down stairs a couple times I am wary of just sticking my foot own from a high height as my truck is lifted, and taking the chance on missing that step and tumbling again and getting injured.
Plus I am 5’2”!
I have resigned to carrying a 3-step little giant ladder from Lowe’s. I was going to link but still looking for the exact one. The top most step has a solid wide base, enough for both feet and then room around.

 

I'm 5'1" and sometimes, depending on how the truck is parked, it can be tough getting into the back. My previous truck had a plastic bedliner and getting in by putting my knees down on the tailgate was painful (bad knees didn't help). This time around I got smart and put a Bedrug in instead, so can put my knees down on the tailgate and lift myself up without pain and that helps a lot. I also strapped one of those plastic folding single steps (from Bed Bath & Beyond) to the bedrail so can grab that if needed. One day I will break down and get one of those bed steps cuz they look great, but my little single step seems to be working out fine at the moment. To wash the truck last weekend I had to use a ladder to reach the roof LOL I need to get a sponge on a stick.

 

I actually want a ladder. Step seems to be less comfortable

^^^^^^ That one looks like it would work great. I like the fact that it folds flat against the tailgate when not in use.

 

I have looked at this one also, especially because it seems to be specific for the Tundra. However, the load capacity is 80kg (176lbs). I am 'a little' over that.

 

It has worked great so far, 50 bucks can’t beat it

 

Any drilling needed ?

 

I pre-drilled mounting holes into the tailgate then mounted with the screws they provided.

I also added no slip strips to the steps for added grip

 

I too do this ^^^ though with a two stepper. Stupid easy (bungee it to a corner tie down loop when not in use). And you can be "all in" for less than $50 for aluminum.

i just need a good tie down system that doesnt rattle or come loose.

 

Ladder looks awesome, I went the bed step route because I kneel on my tailgate and the rug is cushy for that.



Another option is the Bestop brand which has a bigger step than Amp Research, mechanism is the same.

That said, if you're big and want sure footing, ladder is probably your best route.

 

Yes I have the bed rug as well. Hmm these steps are so expensive!

 

Nice, but I would prefer a bigger base to step on to. My luck I miss that little step and down I go!

In case you're interested, the Bestop is wide, and the surface is like sandpaper still grippy after rainfall.

 

Wow that is beefy!! My truck formerly had a 6” lift, got new suspension and it’s down a couple inches but at 5’2” tailgate is still up there

 

Problem Solved

 

Ruthless hahaha. I’d take the step over the ladder.

 

I like the step better, my lazy ass don’t have to open the tail gate, drop the ladder and not close the tail gate with ladder down
