1794 5.7L versus 5.7L iForce which gets better gas mileage?

I'm a little old lady that always wanted to own a big truck and I don't know a lot about car mechanics. Went to the Orange County, California New Car Show last week and fell in love with the 1794. I won't be towing anything, just around town miles. I test drove it today and I am certain I want it. It will be the last "big" luxury item I will buy in this lifetime. I've been reading the different Tundra forums and know gas mileage is low. But, even if I get 1-2 more in gas mileage by buying a different engine I'm interested. So what does iForce mean and will I get better or equal gas mileage with an iForce. Thank you in advance.

 

They're the same engines in the 1794 as he other V8s. Only difference is that fancy 1794 badge and beautiful interior. Engine wise, same.

 

The only way you'll get better mileage is with the smaller 4.6 liter engine. Unfortunately it isn't offered on the 1794. The 1794 is just a platinum (which is the highest trim) with the special brown leather, wood trim, and some other stuff like 1794 floor mats I believe. You won't get the best gas mileage with the Tundra, but atleast you won't be stranded on the side of the road and the truck's not going to be constantly in the shop. Good luck with your decision.

In all seriousness, it's the same engine, just a different interior and a specialized exterior badge. You won't be disappointed in either performance, or reliability. You also won't have to worry about much other than scheduled maintenance. We do have a thread on when to get whatever done (oil, transmission fluid, and what have you) Good luck on your purchase and if there's anything you would like/need to know, we have a great (albeit, somewhat immature at times....*raises hand*) and informed ladies and gents in this forum. Don't hesitate to ask, ma'am.

while i have no data to support this, it's arguable that the 4.6 gets much better mileage than the 5.7.
my reasoning is that like many here i came from a tacoma and was fairly surprised to find that the mileage wasn't considerably better than the tundra. basically, pedal input has a lot to do with mileage and the fact is that with the tacoma i had to push it a lot harder to get where i wanted to go.

 

Any one on here have the 1794? I am considering trading up jus cause I want the sunroof n seats too! Also can that leather color be toned darker? Bit too orange like U.T. longhorn orange

 

Exactly. Wish I would have asked more questions on here before I made my purchase. Bone stock the 4.6 may get a little bit better mileage than the 5.7 (which is part of the reason I got it, plus I was impatient to get in another Tundra after selling my 1st gen and came across a killer deal).

Once you add a leveling kit and some bigger tires that mpg drops quite a bit and you can feel the truck doesnt have as much zip where as the 5.7 would still have plenty and not require as much to get up to speed.


Lesson learned, my next Tundra will have the 5.7 as well as the captains seats rather than the bench.

 

Off topic but speaking of pedals. Does the Tundra have the whimpy little pedal like the Tacoma? I hate the one on my 2013. I would not let them cut or change out my 2009.

 

My truck has plenty of zip at 275/70 AT's. And mpg didn't drop much (about 1 - 2) what size and type tires did you get?

Don't worry, I wish I had gotten the 5.7 also but needed a truck fast and had a great deal on my tundra like you. Eh. Next time!

 

I think its these heavy ass Cooper tires that shredded my mpg. Same size as yours but think mine are quite a bit heavier. I lost atleast 2 mpg, but it seems closer to 3. That could also be due to the fact my milage has been mostly stop and go city traffic for the last few months mixed with towing the boat a lot on the weekends.

It does still have plenty of zip and power for my needs but sometimes I find myself wanting more (mostly when towing the boat or pulling up beside another Tundra at a red light).

Regardless I think the tradeoff of the 1 mpg difference according to Toyota specs would be worth it for the 5.7. Either way I wouldnt trade my truck for anything other than a 5.7 Tundra.

Your MPG drop is more the towing and city than tires. Towing kills the MPGs. Most likely puts you in the 10-12 range on the hwy. City maybe worse. Discount accidently put Goodyear MTRs on my Tacoma when I replaced the OEMs.Hwy mileage dropped about 3 tenths. I ran them for a month until they changed out for Duratracs in load Cs. I bet those MTR Es pushed 60lbs

 

hahaha, i honestly don't know man. my tacoma was a 2008 trd 6-speed and while i have to agree that the pedals certainly weren't substantial they were small because of the clutch pedal so i don't know that i could have had anything bigger.

Best decision I ever made, went from a 2016 sr5 CM to a 2017 1794 TRD. The leather can be a little much for some, it looks way better in person than on pics. The sensors make pulling out easier since it has cross traffic alert and the auto dimming side mirrors are so useful and make night driving way more enjoyable since the mirrors are so big. Nothing beats driving with the sunroof open and the back sliding window down!!!

It is the length not width that is the issue. What is a Platinum Pro. Is that a Platinum that you put Pro parts on?
