    Timing belts will give you no issue...until they break, at which point your engine is destroyed. Never worth the risk IMO.

    Not necessarily, there is a chance your valves will smack the pistons but unless your in hard acceleration when it snaps most likely you will just break a belt. But not worth the risk imo

    Blew timing belt merging onto freeway in a Camry which is a interference engine and not a thing wrong. Just saying it doesn’t always happen.

    I think I'm gonna keep her forever (or until she gives up the ghost)... got a 08 Nissan Maxima that needs ignition coils (plan on doing them in the next couple weeks). Once they are in, I'm gonna park my Tundra and use the Maxima as my daily driver.

    The cost of new trucks blow me away (in a bad way) plus I have a sense of loyalty to "my" truck... Had never left me hanging!

    Would you mind telling us what repairs its had over that half a million miles? (come from someone who bought one this year with 300K on it and who is wondering what is going to need to be replaced in the next decade or so)

    An 06? Damn man. That 500,000 miles in 13 years. 38.5k a year. You a hotshot driver or something? Truck looks great for that mileage though.

    Second owner... Bought it with around 60k miles in 09.

    Not a hotshot driver, just a long-arse commute (140 mile round trip). Plus I get around quite abit during the weekends. In this part of Texas, there's always something to catch/kill and eat!

    I hope she lasts a little bit longer... Thanks for the kind words!

    Welcome. Shake it down hard and depending on what you find (and your allowable time to work on it) might end up spending a year and a couple grand in optimizing it. Add another couple grand for tires and lifts if thats the route you wish to go.

    Great trucks. Better than new ones IMO.

    When I was 8 my step-father opened a gas station/garage. So I grew up working on all kinds of cars; it's in my blood...LOL I usually buy used and fix what's broke. This one is no different.
    The biggest expense so far has been replacing the clockspring. Ouch! Needed an oil change bad. Had to get some tires; including a spare rim and tire; running 265/70r16s for now. Seems like almost all the little bulbs were burned out. It's got some body dents but very little rust; thankfully. Tailgate was replaced with a junker, so I sanded and painted it. Driver's inside door panel is all taped together. Seems that Toyota no longer makes them so I'll be looking in some junk yards. The window needed an arm; motor was ok. Driver's seat needed a seat cover. Rest of the upholstery is not too bad. It's now driveable. I paid $3500 for it...

    New member here. 03 limited 2wd AC with 177k. Just dropped her off for the first timing belt change. Figured it was probably time now that I've just about doubled the recommended interval. Only work I've done other than regular maintenance was a new serpentine belt and O2 Sensors. Also had the front leather reupholstered. Next on my list is the driver side window motor...
