We are all well aware of the clunk right after we start our tundras and drive off (both Tundras I've owned clunked).

This is not another post about trying to figure out why, we know why our trucks do it in relation to the ABS self test. I'm interested in knowing where the part is mounted, master cylinder, ABS actuator that actually makes the mechanical clunk we all hear.

For the mechanical guys, what component in the braking system actually makes the clunk?

If this part has been identified before other than "its the ABS self check" some input on its location would be helpful and or what the ABS actuator, pump, module does to create the clunk.

Toyota service literature calls it the "VSC Actuator Assembly". It's mounted just in front of the power brake booster/master cylinder on the driver-side inner fender. It's proximity to the driver may contribute to hearing the noise, but engineers chose the location based on function.

Actually, I've never heard mine either, but I have heard it on other, high-end vehicles...not a clunk, more of a RRRRRRPP.

Yeah, I've never heard this, even had Mrs turn on while I'm standing out side hood open, even walk with it while she pulls away from driveway and up to corner stop sign, never hear it

I'll search around for he VSC Actuator, for those that have never heard the clunk, thats great your truck doesn't do it. Both my Tundras clunk again its sporadic and not every time I drive away. Its odd that so many hear it and some just don't have it.

    Pics to follow
