I think I've developed some sort of issue with my HVAC system.
The truck is a 2004 with 95k miles, and is usually only driven weekends. (I've put about 12k miles on it since buying it almost 5 years ago.)

The HVAC system makes, what I could best describe as, a sort of wheezing sound every 10 seconds or so when the system is on. Wheezing or groaning, then stops, then about 10 seconds later I hear it again. The best picture I can paint is this, imagine a person sleeping and they stop breathing for several seconds then they kind gasp for air. It's not incredibly loud but annoying and a little disconcerting. Sounds the truck interior is breathing.

It does it on all settings, and it just started doing this in the last week or two.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Do the first gen tundra trucks have a cabin air filter?

You can recommend breathe-right strips. I'll give you full credit.

Are you able to nose around to try to determine more precisely the origin of the sound. Fan motor, A/C compressor, the like.

I will.....I was just hoping I didn't have to do exploratory surgery. I was betting someone has had this same issue....but I lost that bet. Thanks for the thoughts gents, I'll post back if I determine what it is.

I promised I'd post back if I found the problem and I have.....what I also learned, based on the dates of my posts....is that I do not drive my truck enough. WOW.

Anyway....it was an A/C issue. If you open the hood, you will see a coupling in front of the radiator on the far right side. There is a seal there...these seals tend to deteriorate causing a freon leak. The system is meant to be a pressure system, thus as the pressure was trying to build, the seal would leak causing the pressure to bleed back down. That pressure bleed was the "exhaling" I was hearing.

So, $100 later and all is good. (seal was like 2 bucks, dye for test was a few bucks, freon was like $37 bucks....rest was labor.)

    Hope this helps someone.
