When is it time to upgrade UCA?

    Saw a post earlier today and didn't want to take away from the OP but it got me thinking.

    Does there come a time, and when is that time, that I would need to upgrade my UCA's? What should I look for or consider if/when looking for this change

    Here's my current setup:

    • 2019 Pro, on pro suspension/lift
    • 35x12.5 KO2's with stock BBS wheels
    • CB Pro Kit
      • Front Coilover Shim Kit
      • Steering Kit
      • +3" Shackles
    I have heavy armor (sliders, skids etc).

    My current use: Almost daily driver, love driving on dirt, fast and crawling.
    My endgame: I'm living it now!
    Future mods that may/not impact: Rear Springs, high clearance front bumper, add'l weight mods in back such as bed rack/awnings etc.

    Trd sways, bullydog, magnaflow, sumo springs
    Uca’s serve 2 purposes.

    1. Far more adjustment than stock for your alignment. Once you angle the arms enough, the stock setup cannot be aligned optimally.

    2. More down travel. They are able to droop more than stock if your shock can handle it. Aftermarket coilovers can extend farther than stock, not sure of the trd pro shock will allow that...

    Lifts on trucks always seem to wear out stock suspension parts quicker, no matter how good the lift is. That being said, the last 2 Toyotas i've owned (1 Tacoma and 1 Tundra) i ran my lifts without UCA's for about 15-20k miles b4 i added uca's. In the end, i've added the uca's, no real reason i waited other than $$. Newer uca's are beneficial, especially the uniball ones.

    So the general answer is as long as you keep it under 3" lift, then stock uca's will be fine. But what are the benefits to upgrading the uca's anyway with the under 3" lift? Is it more fine tuning of the alignment? Any difference in tire wear? etc...

    Alignment is your tire wear. The lift will wear out the balljoints quicker but that’s what you pay to play.

    The truck handles better with the extra caster provided by new uca’s
