The entire DOD is getting fatter and softer. An inevitable side effect of years of lowering standards to meet increased optempo.

Please don't get me started. Lol.

Our physical standards just got WAY tougher... for men.
As for the females... That's another subject all together that I can't touch publicly until I retire.

Wow that's surprising. I figured for sure it would be the Navy. When I was in it was chock full of fat chiefs.

Then again, the Army is so big that the quality spectrum varies dramatically. Dudes from the 75th, some select infantry units and the green berets are absolute studs. However, when I was at Fort Gordon as well as Kadena, what I saw was shocking and embarrassing. Hopefully standards will tighten some day because I feel bad for the thousands of actual warriors who have to work alongside and share the same uniform as the turds that make up the general populous.

I would have loved to grill that guy on all of his ribbons just to listen to wild explanations. Im also amazed that he was able to get a dress blue blouse in that size.

I will say that through all my deployments with sister branches, the USMC are by far the most uniform. They all have the same look, like clones of each other, just different colors. I'm surprised at the results from that article; being in the AF, I would've thought for sure we would be the "winners". Like @BRNG ITT said, standards are lower, opstempo is higher, and with all the cuts we've been doing, now they can't afford to keep losing people

I was just reading an article last week about the AF getting rid of BF standards for some specialties, I believe their cyber warfare branch is not going to have any.

I saw the comment about the fat navy chiefs. A lot of those old fat navy chiefs were on sea duty forever and knew their rates inside and out. I would take an old fat navy chief that knew his stuff over the 8 year everybody gets a trophy chiefs that are out on the ships now. They don't know shit about their rates because they are evaluated on how well they can do jobs other than their own. I won't even go on about the CNO and MCPON getting rid of the navy rating structure.

I'm glad I am retired and looking at all of this from the outside.

I pity butter bars. Poor bastards are scrutinized so hard. You can always tell which ones will make it to Captain by how humble they are when they check into their first station.

I'd rather see some overweight people that are smart and know what they're doing compared to seeing some stupid skinny kid not having any clue and needing his hand held.

Funny thing is most of the PT failures I've seen have been by skinny people, while "fatties" pass

Im almost complete opposite. If you're fat or out of shape, I dont care how smart you think you are, you need to get the hell out of the military. I've heard the "I'm good at my job" defense before but all that goes down the tube if you're fatigued.
When out of shape turds get physically exhausted, they don't think straight which leads to mistakes which leads to death.
I can maybe see how that defense is plausible if your a tech or mech in a hanger working on jets, but if you have ANYTHING to do with ground combat, either get in shape or stay the fuck away from me and my platoon because I refuse to have someone die due to your laziness.

I agree on that, ground pounders need to be in shape. But if you're at a desk or hangar, your specialty isn't your physical condition, it is your technical expertise.

Meh. I'm a dentist. 63A. Just because I can out-shoot the infantrymen doesn't mean I should have to. Know your lane, and stay in it. *thats* how the mission gets accomplished.
