Existential crisis...should I stay or go?

Hi Folks,

I’ve got a 2017 Platinum Pro, 4x4, Silver Sky. 33” Toyo R/t’s, Method NV’s, all TRD Pro upgrades. Driver handle, esp long gun storage, tri fold tonneau cover etc. She’s my pride n joy and Just turned 10k miles on her this morning.

Planned to stretch bed to 6.5ft, A.D.D bumpers front n rear then...put a Harrop TVS 2650 supercharger on this bitch. So another $18-20k in mods over next 2years. I planned on making this my forever truck.

Bought truck for $48,600 otd in Jan 2017.
Currently owe $22,577. I put down a hefty deposit (sold my 2007 DC for $16.4k) and have made over payments when i’ve had lots of OT at work. So i’m in decent shape equity to resale.

Problem... I took my company truck for its service to a local FORD stealership while waiting I test drove a 2019 Raptor Super crew yesterday and holy chit!
Super comfortable, seats are plush, great infotainment and moon roof is sweet! It feels futuristic compared to Tunny’s...
Dealer wanted $91k at which I just chuckled and kept driving.

Well yesterday I found an out of state dealer, has a loaded, 2018 raptor for 5k under MSRP. So $67,872. They can register truck, ship for $900 to my home in California. I just have to smog and pick up plates.

Would probably sell my Tundra locally, local dealer offered me $35k over the phone. Indiana dealer hasn’t got back with a trade in number...

Any useful input appreciated.

Dont do it! Swap out your seats and HU if that is what impressed you.

 

Buddy of mine had one and got rid of it.....not to mention you catching hell for leaving Toyota reliability and going to Ford.

 

Indiana dealer just called, $38.5k for trade in. Sales person said that’s the absolute limit for my truck unseen.

I wouldn't get caught up in all the brand loyalty hullabaloo. If you found a vehicle that you absolutely fell in love with and can afford it, then go for it! Life is too damn short to not have some fun.

 

Dont buy a Ford I just traded my f150 super crew lariat it drove nice and looked good was comfortable etc but once I put some mileage on it it was nothing but problems there was a long list I wont go into here but Ford did not help me on alot of the defective parts that failed and I spent 3 mounths trying to get them to replace the broken stuff I finally traded it after nothing happened they still owe me a check for parts I payed for

I say go for it bro. If that’s what you want you won’t feel right unless you try it. You’ll always be thinking what if. I agree the raptor is a pretty damn good truck when it’s working right.

BDP, i’m Watching that tfl truck vid right now. LoL
Dealer is working on some numbers, so far not looking good.
Estimated, monthly payments are going north of $900, current payment is $537.16 for comparison.
That’s quite a jump and leaves no room for overpayments or saving up for mods/upgrades.

 

If it makes you happy, get it, dont wait and end up regret it later.

 

That’s quite the chunk of change due every month. But if I could swing it comfortably I would get one. They’re badass trucks.

 

Why did your get your tundra?

 

Wait a few years for the 2021 model with the supercharged 5.2L GT500 motor. That v6 is weak

So you want to lose 20k on your current truck to buy another truck that will depreciate (maybe not a lot being a raptor, but still)?

I’m kind of like you...I get on a kick and I want something, but I usually try to wait it out for the want to pass.

 

I say, sleep on it and wait couple days see if you still really want it. $1K a month truck payment that's pushing it. Money better invested somewhere else.

 

If I had fuck you money I’d definitely be adding a raptor in my garage. On my modest salary I can’t justify the raptor being a 65-100k truck. There’s nothing on the truck that impressive but I can’t lie it looks sick. If you’re feeling it and got the $ go for it.

 

Get yourself to a psychologist on the double.

 

Damn $900 plus for a Raptor a month. Raptor a badass trucks but that a bit much. I would wait it out save a bit more for lower monthly payment. But if you can swing it without putting your balls on the line. Pull the trigger on it. Plus if you hate it sell it and by another Tundra. Let’s us know what you do

hell I don't know..The trying to be fiscally conservative part of me says..not worth it. But the 'ain't no college equasion for bad ass!!' in me says Dew it!!!! you work hard for your cash and you can't take it with you.

 

So you’re putting off your forever truck for a few more years?

 

Reliability roulette, if you can afford it, do it, not knowing is the greatest regret. I'd love one but I'd never own one long term.
