Cooper AT3 4S

Got the new Cooper AT3 4S in 275/65/18 put on the truck in August of last year and am loving the traction. Got them at Discount Tire w/certificates. Perform great on wet and snow covered roads. Pretty good in icy conditions as long as there is a little snow to be had as well. Strict ice performance is no better than any other non-studded tire but 4WD helped make up for that. Took a road trip to CA and back and they were beyond quiet on the highway. Overall very pleased with them. Time will tell how they hold up. I'm looking to go with the XLT's next time because I can't get the 4S in 275/70/18. Advantage of the 4S is it is mountain peak rated.




Did have a small string of bad luck with them with 2 punctures on 2 different tires within the first 6k miles....but anyone can have bad luck I guess. First one was a good sized screw and they were able to patch without issue. Second one was a 7" piece of Rebar that ripped a hole in the tread the size of my pinky and they had to replace the whole tire which was covered by Discount Tire. Only cost me approx $28 to put the certificate on the new tire. Was not thrilled initially and was considering BFG's or Toyo's next but will probably stick with Cooper but move to the XLT's.

Yup. I have them and they’ve been outstanding so far.

 

I put a set of these on my dads '14 DC 4x4 in September. Since putting them on, they've been to Colorado and back, Pennsylvania and back and a few thousand miles here. Lots of snowy, icy back roads and plenty of highway miles and they've performed extremely well.

 

I like the XLT's, will be on my radar next time.

 

New 275/60/20 American made Cooper AT3 4S on my baby. Rugged enough but smooth as silk and couldn’t be happier!

 

Put them on the 4runner and love them. Have the Falken AT3 on the Tundra and love them but would definitely consider the XLT at replacement time.

 

I was also considering the Falken AT3W next in 275/70/r18. How are they holding up for you? Price is right on the LT's

 

Do we know for a fact that the XLT's are not mountain peak rated? Coopers site doesn't say that they are but some tire retailer sites such as Discount Tire claim that they are?

 

Only have about 4K on them but they show practically no wear, while I replaced the stock Michelins after 11k because they were wearing like shit. They balanced well, are remarkably smooth and quiet, and have good road manners for a decently aggressive AT. The only knock is the weight but don’t notice it.

 

I was wondering that too. Looking at the features that apparently make the 4S severe snow rated are almost identical to the XLT. I read one review, I think on Coopers website, where the reviewer said his had the three peak icon on the tire but I haven't seen any other info that they're actually severe snow rated.

 

I’ll keep an eye out. Some people around here have them so if I can track them down I’ll look next time I see some XLT’s. Next time I’m at Discount Tire I can ask too

 

I put cooper on my Tacoma did okay in snow, handling was god in rain and on dry roads. didn't pick up stones which'd help keep the noise low, only complaint they were noisy ,singing going down the highway. excellent wear.

 

So I saw some AT3 XLT's the other day and they don't seem to have the 3 peak symbol, just M+S. Hopefully will end up near Discount Tire soon so I can ask them for verification if any of the XLT line is 3 peak rated

 

I actually e-mailed Cooper about the winter rating of the XLT's and this is the response I got...

There are only certain sizes of the Discoverer AT3 XLT that have passed the industry standard to accelerate in snow. Below is a list of these tire sizes.

·31x10.50R15
·LT265/70R18
·LT275/70R18
·LT275/55R20
·LT265/60R20
·LT275/60R20
·LT275/65R20

If your tire size is not listed, please check back later as additional testing has been planned and more sizes may be added later in the year.

 

I second the Falken AT3. I've got them in Es and really like them.

 

What are the "certificates" you mentioned twice?

It is the road hazard warranty on each tire that is available for purchase. Well worth it, even if you only use it once. I used it once and it more than paid for it.

 

I just got my 275/70/18's XLT's in today. Mount and balance tomorrow. I can verify that they do have the severe snow (three peak, snowflake) rating.

 

Cool deal. What wheels are you mounting them on? Post some pics once they're installed!

 

They'll be going on my stock TRD rims (unfortunately lol). Two hunting trips this year seems to have depleted my fun money. I'll definitely post pics once they're on.

 

Here's the finished product. She got lots of love today, new pads and rotors on all four corners and tires.

Almost good to go lol. I put new Toyota rotors on and Hawk pads and the rear rotors are dragging a little bit on the backing plate so I'll tear them apart and fix that. So far the tires seem great, for the 18 miles I've put on them.
Yup. Steeler Nation. I was born and raised in PA and grew up a Steelers fan. I moved to WI when I was a senior in high school but PA is still where I call home.
