What are everyone's view on CPO, Certified Pre-owned? I'm in the process of finding a Tundra, and a local Toyota dealership has a 2018 lifted Tundra but it is not Certified Pre-Owned according to the sales guy because of the lift. Do you guys think it's worth the chance since it's not CPO and doesn't go through all the checks?

Imo, going through all the checks is worthless. They aren't going to intentionally find anything that would be fixed at their expense. However, the cpo warranty is worth something, because of the cam tower issue. Mine just saved me from a 3k repair at 6.5yrs in. I recommend finding something that can qualify for the 7yr 100k warranty. Or make sure you get a smoking deal so your not sad if you get a big repair out of warranty. They are great trucks, so the odds are in your favor there.

    I agree with this.
Realistically I’m sure they “check” the truck, but having the warranty would be key for me.
I ran into that issue looking at a TRD Pro Tacoma. I didn’t buy it because I didn’t want to take the chance I’d have an issue down the line.

Oh crap. I didn't about that. So any lifted Tundra will not qualify for an extended warranty purchase later on?

I think it's up to each dealer to submit a truck for cpo status. If it we're me I would only submit stockish vehicles. I would get a stock cpo truck in the trim you want, then lift it. Unlikely the lift would void a power train warranty once you have it.

Lift alone wont void an entire warranty it can void some items that are connected to or related to the suspension system. As far as "What criteria the dealer or Toyota must abide by when qualifying a vehicle as CPO worthy" I am not positive. However they could be blaming it on the lift as an excuse and perhaps really the truck has been in an accident or doesnt have a clean carfax for some reason. You never know.

I see you are in Fl as well. What dealer is it? If they are customer oriented, they should take care of you regardless if its CPO or not.

Yes, I see the same result from a lift...no CPO.

I think the CPO warranty covers everything, so by having non-stock items I can understand why it wouldn't qualify for that program.

Wow all this crap from Toyota now because of lifts. I heard Mike Swears talk about Toyota working with aftermarket companies to promote the tundra. He even stated how they are working with lifts and such because everyone likes modifying tundras due to the aggressive stance it has compared to the competition. Someone tell him he’s full of shit next time he does an interview.

I'm not sure how good the aftermarket warranties are that you get from your local lending institutions.

If you can find certified, I say go for that one. It’s a nice peace of mind and great coverage.
