can we just disconnect the sensor, sure it will throw a code on the dash, but at least you don't have to worry about the truck deciding to brake on it's own!!

They did both recalls on my truck this morning. I have the older pro grille, level, and different wheels and tires.

Here are before and after pictures. You can see the sealant on top of the sensor.

It’s a shit fix. Maybe it’s cheap and sloppy because it’s temporary. Hopefully they will have a properly designed sensor to throw on.

So if stock tires are 18" and I get the TSS package with 20" tires, am I considered stock or nah? Will they do the recall or nah? I've had two recalls done already, but not the KOB or KOA.

You should be fine as long as you have Toyota accessories from what I understand. I may be wrong and if I am someone else jump on in with with right information.

I Talked to a Toyota Customer Service Rep about the issue yesterday and they said that the recall for the sensor could only be preformed, if the truck is within "factory specs" so no lifts or oversized tires.
She said if you want them to do the Recall you have to bring to truck back in stock for, OR leave it as an open recall... so my understanding is, even if you were to get it "fixed" as soon as you put bigger tires or a lift of some sort on it. it will have the same issues....
I did ask about the LIFTED trucks for sale from the dealership, she said, the dealerships that offer the trucks already lifted will have the same issues with the recall. She said that, that is on dealers who have them lifted.
it doesn't give me a warm fuzzy, as far as the PCS system goes. I know you can turn it off, but you have to do it every time you start the vehicle... A pain in the A$$

Other than the idiot light illuminating your dash, what potential PCS-related problems are keeping you up at night? I think there are some irrational and uninformed fears out there about the systems functionality. Dont get me wrong I'd like them to perform the recall on my truck too but I think not being able to use adaptive cruise control on infrequent occasions is not really a deal breaker for me and I certainly drove OK without these nanny systems for decades prior to their existence.

The thing that keeps me up at night, is the potential that the truck will brake on it's own because the system is malfunctioning. The "BRAKE!" light and alarm have both activated for no reason. I haven't had the PCS try to brake yet, but knowing that it is a possibility makes me a little nervous. Especially since I HAVE experienced the VSC system malfunction on multiple occasions in my 2011 Tacoma. I can tell you, when your going around a corner at about 40MPH and the truck decides it's a good idea to lock the brakes and put you into a skid, even for a few milliseconds, it's not a good feeling. it makes you not trust your truck. So for me, it's a big deal...

EWWWW that looks like that spray foam stuff in a can that you squirt around building window frames that expands and fills voids (except for color, that stuff is a dull yellow that dries to a dull tan) and feels like Styrofoam sorta. Hope it doesn't degrade over time like that stuff.

Radar cruise won’t work, stupid malfunction warning taking center of dash over, random braking are a few. I would be fine with it disabled. Only thing that frustrates me is the loss of the digital speedometer. I look at that mostly now for some reason.

Well, this is a recall. If there was anything sensor related, in the future that failed post recall, I would think there would be some assistance... Assuming they could accurately diagnose it.

I have had the symptoms of PCS malfunction for almost a year now. No issue ever with the truck braking on its own. I think this is a misconception with how the system works.

    Same here.

Mine has only ever resulted in malfunction message. That message was twice in 17k miles. I can't recall how many times I've seen the clean sensor error.

I’ve only had a random brake once. I don’t know what it saw. Good thing for the override when your on the accelerator. Then there was the time when everything was working until someone pulled out in front of me. I almost hit the lady. No alert or anything, then I looked down to see a “PCS unavailable”. Yeah no shit.

I got denied last Friday for the recall on account of my lift. I understand their viewpoint of the truck being out of spec in terms of ride height, but the damn sensor is getting water inside whether the truck is lifted or not...

Had mine fixed.... I agree with the early post that it's a cheap and sloppy fix. The foam sticker they put on sticks out everywhere.

The foam cushion application looks terrible. I'm getting mine 'sealed' next week and will see how sloppy the job is.

I never changed the oil in my GMC myself. It had a recall every 3k miles or so for 48k miles so I just let the dealer do it while it was there.

Please don't misunderstand the sentiment in my previous statement.

I'm not contesting whether the tss will apply brakes if imminent collision is determined. I'm merely stating that I've never experienced this.

I have had the red box pop up and scream at me but it never applied the brakes.

I think it may depend on how fast you are going when it happens and whether or not you apply the brakes. I live in SoCal where the traffic magically starts and stops at random. I’ve had it go off on city roads where it just flashed and beeped at me but I was already applying the brakes. The other day I took a 3hr road trip and had the adaptive cruise set. The cars ahead of me slowed down quickly and the system automatically took the truck out of cruise and applied the brakes. It wasn’t anything crazy but certainly noticeable.

Someone in my local Tundra group that works at a dealership posted that they've updated the terms of the recall for modified trucks - they'll do the update and sealant but make you sign a form and disable the PCS.
