I have a light that pops up and says maintenance required soon when i start the engine and goes off after about 5 sec. Doesn't say what maintenance is required. Is this stating that i need an oil change? Should i take it into Toyota dealership and have it checked?

If it goes off it means it's getting close to oil change time. When it stays on, means it's time. My 2012 is set to go off every 5K miles even though I use synthetic oil.
If you have/use synthetic oil, you don't need to change it until 10k (I only go up to 8k just in case)

Service records show the oil was changed about 1000 miles ago. thats what got we wondering if it meant something else.

They might not have reset the light. It happens sometimes. What's your mileage and I'm assuming this is recently bought

    At a dealership?
They probably changed the oil just for the sale and forgot to reset it.

Still new to figuring out what everything on this truck does as this is the first Tundra I have not only owned but driven... So far I am extremely pleased with my Tundra.

I can't wait for hunting season!! Need to get me a bow though, set for rifle season though!
Honestly, I think you're okay. If it was the check engine light, my response would have been different, but maintenance light only comes on every 5K miles. It's. It my truck though, completely your call

Not that much different from other trucks as far as warning lights and whatnot. If the service records show they changed the oil and whatever other services that may have needed to be done, all I can say is enjoy the ride in your new tundy! Also, good luck with the hunt brother!!

I have always been a Chevy guy and I test drove several. I seen this Tundra on the lot and told my wife I wanted to see what the fuss was about in the tundra. Signed the paperwork 30 minutes after the test drive. lol

Ditto! S10 and Silverado. Came time and situation where I NEEDED a truck right then. Tundras always caught my eye so figured I'd try it. I'm hooked now! im the only one out of my buddies that drives a tundra, and have gotten plenty of flack for it. But in the past two years I've had mine, every single one of them has been in the shop for malfunctions, recalls, broken whatever and mine is still running strong in spite of it being a 12 and all of theirs is a 14 or newer.

I planning on testing out the 4 wheel drive lol. elevation where i am heading is around 7k ft so I should be in the snow. all my buddies are either chevy or ford. I get my fair share of crap thrown my way. But for the money and the options that were out there, this was the best bang for the buck and frankly it was more comfortable than the chevy. Always like the body style of the 2nd gen tundras.

lol I hope so I want some jerky, Truck is still new to me so I will probably take it easy in where I decide to take it lol. My old hunting rig was an 85 K-5 Blazer that would go anywhere. Found myself on some Exteme Jeep trails that I will definately be avoiding this year lol.

Ooh good idea. Tundras are more than capable of that but tacomas are much better at that stuff. Less weight, more nimble, etc!

Now the maintenance light is staying on. camper pulled awesome, trailer brake controller works great, could hardly tell it was behind me, averaged 8mpg towing but had plenty of power.

Like others have said, the maintenance light will start flashing every 4500 miles or so as a reminder and then stay lit at every 5000 miles until you reset it. Even if you don't need an oil change, basic maintenance such as tire rotations are built into a 5k mile schedule according to your owners manual.
Glad it towed good for you

You'll have to reset it. You'll have to read how in your manual as the method I posted is for the basic gauge cluster like mine, yours is the upscale fancier one and I don't know the steps for that one.

I haven't read of any way to customize when the light comes on. It's easy to reset.
