2019 TRD Pro headlights with upgraded LED turn signals

So I am installing these on my 2017 Tundra. I know down the road I plan on installing led turn signals in the rear. Will this resistor be okay to stay in the front and to use in the back when I add those? Or should I change the front and add a different one in the rear?

I know that these are what they sell on Headlight Revolution. This bulb and resistor combo.

 

There are cheaper options, which have not required resistors if just converting the fronts on 2018/2019. Your money, your choice...do a search on LED bulbs.

 

Do you happen to know that if this resistor would be okay to use in both the front and back signal lights? Or just the front?

 

If your 2017 has the STOCK HEADLIGHTS, that is NOT the LED bulb you need. Stock front turn signal for 2017 Tundra is 4157NAK. Bases for 4157 and 7443 bulbs are NOT THE SAME. The 7443 LED is used in 2018/2019 Tundras.

IF resistors are needed, vendors recommend using 50W 6 ohm resistors at each corner for each exchanged bulb. And, yes, they will definitely work (IF you need them)...that's the purpose for which HR sells them.

When doing all four signals, the smart way is to only use a single 3 ohm resistor for behind each tail light each signal circuit. There's room there, and the resistors are hidden out of sight. You can convert all four, install a single 3 ohm resistor in each circuit, and spend less money than doing just the fronts.

Edit: At 10:50, this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4HlVYkceNo&t=947s ) shows how a resistor can be installed behind the tail light. Use 3 ohm instead of 6 ohm, and that's all you need for converting fronts and rears. Use Posi-taps instead of soldering, and it's much easier if you don't want to butcher up your truck wiring.

 

Yea I have the 2019 TRD headlight housing. So I am upgrading the signal lights in that.

 

You don't need a resistor in each corner for every bulb. You can just put them in the rear for the turn signals and you'll be fine. I changed out my stock front signals and rear signals. Only have one resistor on each rear signals and it works fine. It provides enough load to fool the computer they are regular bulbs.

But for right I am just doing the front, so would what I have work for now? The 50w 6ohm resistor and the 7443 light? I am buying the rear lights later down the road when I save up some money.

 

Get the rears first. It's easier to mount the resistor in the rear than the front. You don't want the resistor to be mounted or touch plastic because it will melt it. It can get hot when using th signals. You may also still be able to mount the resistor in line with the rear stock signal and it may work with the Led front turn signals since the circuit is inkine with the front and providing an additional resistance load that's needed..

 

Are you married to HR? There are cheaper options...you won't HAVE to save up. Do the search.

I've already done this on my 2017...headlight conversion, complete LED conversion, 3 ohm signal resistors in the rear. Works perfectly.

 

If I already have a 6 ohm resistor will that be okay to use instead of the 3 ohm?

Okay. So does it run off the same circuit or something? Is that why you can get away with using just the rear resistors instead of both the front and back? I'm sorry if I am asking stupid questions, I just want to understand how it works.

 

I mounted the resistors just in the rear because the left front and rear signals are on one circuit together and the right front and rear signals are on another circuit together. The extra load that the resistor provides fools the computer to think there are standard bulbs in the socket instead of a blown light bulbs hence (hyper flashing)

I bought the JDM Astar for my front signals. Those are very good, but I saw these later and like them better. I used these in red for my brake/tail lights (3157 base). Identical specs, better reviews, cheaper (4 for the price of 2), longer rated service life.

 

To clarify, the reason I prefer the Antline/JDMastar design is because of the heavy aluminum housing with nominal cooling fins for the chip mounting. The heavy metallic housing serves as a heat sink and radiator.

A problem with some aftermarket LEDs is overheating and charring of the bulb socket (You'll see some of that in reviews). I checked the base of Nakobas and Antlines after installation using an IR thermometer; the bases of those designs appear to run about 10 degrees above ambient, which is MUCH cooler than the halogen bulbs they replaced. I haven't taken the time to check the JDMastars, but the design is near-identical to the Antline.

 

No resistors?? What is this magic? I have a 2015 and just ordered the new 2019 pro leds... I would probably need a resistor if I installed the led ambers in the front right?

 

More than likely yes. They’re pretty cheap on Amazon. Plan on installing mine tomorrow depending on weather.

On a 2015, you can pretty much count on needing resistors. Some have not required them on 2018/19, but I believe it's because of some trim levels are already using the single strip LEDs, and consequently have a different threshold resistance built into the flasher function. Anyway, the simple answer...my opinion only the 2018+ trucks have any shot at not using resistors, but that's speculation on my part.

Resistors are no big deal. If you're doing all four corners, install one 3 ohm resistor on each side of the truck behind the tail light. I know 3 ohm will work for front and rear, because it worked on my 2017. For 2018/2019 you might be able to get by with 6 ohms per side.

See HR installation video for the resistors, but I would use 3ohms per side. Do all four corners...if you have to add the resistors, then the rears are simple plug 'n plan. If you don't want to butcher up your wiring use the 16-18 ga (Blue) Posi-taps instead of soldering.
