What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

This is how my Denso radiator arrived yesterday. Box wide open. Not even sealed.

Everyone on Amazon reported the same thing. Amazing that Denso can't properly package these.

It's got one minor ding in the coils but I think it's ok.

 

Is it a reasonable consideration for you to buy an auto transport trailer? Use it as a shed/garage to work on the car, close it up & lock it when at work, open up for working room. Bring it with you when you move, sell it for what you paid when you no longer need it.

I'm the same way. I live in a nice house on the golf course. 2300 sq ft. 3 bed 3 bath. paid $162k for it. But NE Indiana isn't for everyone!

 

That kind of money will get you a 1200 sq.ft. 2 bd. 1 ba. on a 5000 sq.ft. lot in my area. That's if the bidding war doesn't drive it too high.

Can you give me a little more info on where these are? I'm replacing the radiator Monday and I'd really like to get all the old coolant out.

 

Stick with the grease and PB on the frame. We need that oil penetrating the frame pores to stop the bubbles from creeping in. Also, the grease is a water repellant.

Ospho is for prepping for finish work painting. It just converts rust via chemical reaction to a paintable surface (that prevents rust). It doesn’t stop rust from happening again on its own.

 

Its cheaper (or same cost) to rent than own the maintenance and taxes for life on a home.

Even when you factor in the resale profit on a home and the commissions paid and the upfront $ deposit to trade up to the next polished turd of a house, you are still chasing your tail.

Yes I own a home so I know full well. Unless you can do ALL the maintenance work yourself on a home its not worth it. Same concept with working on our trucks.

If you do buy make sure everything is perfect and the way you want it. Fixer uppers are not worth it.

Taxes and strong trending socialism/communism (its here in the USA!) will guarantee your resale profits make it a bad investment. Cool story bro!

 

If I put grease, oil, or whatever on the bottom of my truck, its gonna turn brown in a day from all the dirt sticking to it. Remember the dust bowl before the great depression? I live in it.

Got the exhaust pipes painted with ceramic paint. Went to install Bosch Icon Wiper Blades and they do not fit. 6 different fittings and none fit our hook type arm end. Big Gurl from Brasil says it should fit (what?), but it doesn’t. Someone hit this out of the park.

 

Yes. As long as you have no rust conditions (salt, water, or both) you are ok. I’ll live with dirty cacked grease as it becomes a protective layer in itself.

 

@Professional Hand Model that looks a lot better. What ceramic paint did you use?

 

Bosch Icons do fit.

 

Used big box Rustoleum 1200° flat finish. I’ve used it before on the tail pipe without doing any prep and it worked ok. Some rust came back, but again I did not prep with the Ospho. We’ll see how it goes. I used about 2 cans and did 2 rudimentary coats. The wind and conditions were perfect for rattle can work today.

 

You care to give an instructional? I’m open to be proven wrong.

 

Well my new paint job started cracking like an eggshell today, Going to sand it down and start over. Anybody got any ideas for a decent cheap paint or should just primer it and leave it?

 

Picked up some goods from the auto store for next weeks work. The Tricos (whats on the 02’ now) were on sale for the same cost as the better constructed Bosch Icons.

Looking at about another 1k miles till next oil change so the plan is put a fresh oil filter on before putting in the CerraTec. Will run the CerraTec for about 1k and do the next oil change switch to the Mobil1 High Mileage. My oil weeping has really slowed going from Extend Performance to the Regular Mobil Syn. Hoping the High Mileage Formula seals the deal (pun intended).


The strategy has been to bust up any sludge (slight evidence after doing VC gaskets last fall) and bring back the gaskets conditioning with the High Mileage Formula. My oil fill neck and cap varnish can be pushed off with a finger so the Synthetic Mobil detergents are doing the job. My oil cap had some moisture snot after the first full change over to Syn. Never saw it before or after the pics taken below. I think doing the VC gaskets and new PVC valve changed the dynamics of the engine and the Full Synthetic has reached into new areas.

The CerraTec specs are below. Reviews are great. This is an experiement for me. Sounds like it will work well.

 

Good and cheap don’t usually mix, but if you want to go the cheap route and don’t mind a little texture I’ve had great success with the big box rattle can bed liner. I think it only comes in black. Painted a trailer last year and have been very impressive with how well it bonded to aged flat aluminum without a primer. I did sand scuff and wipe down prior to using. Used about 7 cans which is about 2 more than you’d need for the truck.

Yea turning the heat up will open it. Not sure on yours but on my 04 the valve is located on the firewall sort of above the drivers side valve cover.
