    They can still recalibrate it even if it’s not at factor height. To recalibrate it they have to put a special target in front of the truck with a transmitter and then recalibrate the video camera and the radar sensor to get them to both align to each other and sync to the target.
    ...that’s my understanding.

    Take a box of donuts in to your service manager and have a conversation with him to see if they will do the recalibration at the same time as the KOB

    My dealer did mine with the 3" lift and they sell and service units with up to 8" lifts. Full warranty suspension and all.

    I had mine in This past Tuesday to do the recall on the sensor. That same day Toyota sent a bulletin to all dealers not to touch the trucks if they had a lift or tires that were larger than stock. I was on the phone all day with them and they refuse to budge on this issue. They told me to remove the lift and put the factory wheels and tires on if I want my truck fixed. I’m disgusted with Toyota. Btw I had this problem before the lift and had it into service but that makes no difference to them. They never fixed it the first time.
    If anyone out there manages to get a dealer to do the recall on a modified truck I’d love to hear about it.

    They did the recall on mine just didn’t recalibrate it. Maybe because I was in a week earlier when they ordered the part.

    Anyone have a lifted (level kit) on their tundra and getting info on the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor recall?
    I was told by Toyota the leveling kit might have to be removed to recalibrate the sensor after it is sealed/replaced from the recall.

    Are you stuck without getting the sensor now?
    Seems like there are a lot of modified/lifted/aftermarket wheel-equipped tundras out there that will encounter this issue.

    I was denied. They will not perform the recall because of my 2” lift and larger tires. The recall will remain open. Everyone affected needs to make as much noise about this as possible.

    This is a copy of the update to the Service campaign that tells dealers it’s NOT RECOMMENDED.. to perform the recall.

    Now ask yourselves this.... in the first sentence it says that some modifications make it IMPOSSIBLE to perform the campaign. Then why the need to tell them that they shouldn’t do it if it’s impossible to do?? It also states that it’s BEST to have vehicle restored to original condition. Once again, if it’s impossible to do then why the need to say it’s best to do??
    The reason is that it’s bullshit!! They absolutely have the ability and capability to perform the recall... I confirmed it with a dealer technician. It’s Toyota’s way of getting out of doing the work because they know people aren’t going to strip their vehicles to get the work done. They’re all about safety but have no problem with you riding around with a malfunctioning PCS system. It’s laughable!

    Interesting and thanks for the attachment!.

    What about when the dealers (some in Colorado) that like to install lift kits and wheels as part of a "Dealer Included package"....? [To boost sales].
    That would be interesting to be one of those customers.... Dealer would have to absorb the cost to put it back to stock, do the recall, then put it back.

    ....but then again, since it is back to lifted, isn't the recall now out of calibration again?... What's the point?

    To quote part of the article (and yeah it is about a camry, but same principles apply here)
    "....The millimeter-wave radar has to sit precisely where Toyota intends it — all front-end measurements must match the OEM’s tolerances"

    "...Position is important because the millimeter-wave radar is supposed to “see” about 490 feet ahead of itself within a 20-degree horizontal plane and a 4-degree vertical one, which “pretty much covers the lane in front of you,”

    Would still think Toyota would seal the sensor at best.
    And I guess there is a liability in lift companies to create a bracket that will re-adjust the angle of the sensor based on the +N" of lift?

    If the height and angle is that super critical, I would like to know how the sensor is supposed to function when the truck is loaded to max payload. Pretty sure the angle of the sensor to the horizontal will be significantly different as the truck sags in the back.

    One thing about Toyota, they do care what folks think. If enough people complain they are likely to revise the policy.

    That’s the point I made to Corporate. This issue is from leaks. It has nothing to do with a slight lift or larger tires. The system works fine when the water dries out.... and I have a lift. They can recalibrate it... they just don’t want to.

    Everyone needs to complain to corporate... as of now they don’t give a shit. They need more complaints.

    I had an issue a couple month ago. They replaced the sensor for the 4th time. Then recalibrated the camera and sensor together. I have a 3” lift all around. I actually haven’t had an issue since. They thought part of the issue was that no one was calibrating both sensors and camera when replaced, just the sensor. So the system wasn’t aligned. So far so good.

    Those new lifted Trucks will most likely have the recall done because the dealer has all of that money invested. I’m pretty damn sure they’ll do it with the truck as is. Corporate told me that the dealers are independent and free to do as they please but they would be responsible because they went against the recommendation to not do it. Corporate told me to seek out one of those dealers that have those trucks because they might be willing to do the recall for me. That’s how we got to them admitting that it could be recalibrated but that they recommend against it. It’s just a way to put blame and responsibility on us the consumer.

    That’s what has me so pissed! They can do it and would have but corporate put the screws to us. I don’t believe Toyota themselves have much faith in the system so they’re going to push off as much responsibility as they can.

    Very true. I just ordered the Trd Pro grille for my new 19 I'm picking up in a week. They're recalibrating it and performing the update. No problems here. so far. lol. But they do want to charge me 4 hours of labor to "re-calibrate the sensors"

    Had mine done this morning. My truck is levelled, different wheels and tires than stock, and the older pro grille with the ares relocation bracket. The dealership did both recalls with no issues. Here are some before pics and after. You can see the material used to seal it on top.

    Buddy & I have had same issues w/ ours .. alert goes off & no cars in site, then would display pcs off on cluster then turn off multiple times. He has a 2018, mine 2019.

    Took his to Manhattan Beach Toyota yesterday to have sensor replaced (dlr ordered new one) was told they could swap it but can't calibrate it and wouldn't work w/ Jomax bracket. He was first told they wouldn't touch it bc he has the Jomax bracket and 17 TRD grill. Tech also explained he's unable to calibrate the new sensor even if it's installed.

    Same dlr ordered new sensor for mine and want to install it this upcoming Saturday however now I'm questioning taking it in if indeed new sensor won't work w/ Jomax bracket as I'm planning on installing the bracket & 17 TRD grill soon...

    Did I mention... this sensor is a paint in the a**!

    Just had both the K0A and K0B performed on mine. They didn't give any troubles or issues but then again, I'm stock. Unless you count the XP wheels and tires aftermarket even though they're Toyota items. Took about 1.5 hours for the two with oil change and rotataion. They didn't put any details at all though on the service sheet. Just says Completed K0B campaign and Completed K0A campaign. I forgot to check what the sensor looks like to see what sort of job they did on it. I'll walk back out shortly and check.

    Got mine completed today also... took right at 2hrs (w/oil change service too)
    If you are having issues on this and live in Denver, CO area, go to Groove Toyota.... They sale lifted Tundras.

    They didn't even ask or care that it was lifted.

    I think that it is a strict liability issue!
    As can be seen Toyota dealers do have the ability to do the recalibration on a lifted truck. However IF they do so and send the customer on his way and the system doesn't perform leading to an accident... Then Toyota Corp. is on the hook - maybe even for a class action law suit!
    If a local dealer chooses to ignore Toyota's corporate directives and performs the service (with the same tragic results) then they risk only a single law suit against a single dealership.

    It all comes down to numbers and liability! Even if all modified Tundra owners complain I just can't see Toyota changing their position and choosing to take the risk.

    I would be on the side of performing the fix regardless.
    Toyota could issue an electronic waiver to be signed by owners of lifted Tundras for the recall being performed acknowledging the lift?

    ...having a 3/1 level lift did not prevent the tech (who also performed the oil change and saw the diff drop kit and new shocks/struts/shackles) from correctly recalibrating the sensor.
    I believe there are junior/green techs that are not confident and there are some that know their $hit and can work around/with the lift.

    Even if the re-calibration was not performed, the radar sensor would still function correctly (mine did) when lifted (level lifted).
    It was placing more distance between the Tundra and the car in front the Tundra due to the increase in angle.
    Maybe if a lambo got in front of me it wouldn't auto-break.... but that's the lambo's fault for creating a speed bump. :bikewhoops:


    I would be more afraid of the possibility of random continuous braking to engage when/if the sensor malfunctioned from moisture entering it.

    Yeah, you make sense. But unfortunately the legal system doesn't always make sense.
    You've "modified" your truck to change the sensor height. It's pretty easy to argue in court that any sensor issues leading to injury could have been caused by your modification (and therefore are your fault), letting Toyota off the hook. If on the other hand Toyota just recalibrated despite the height change then they would be accepting responsibility/liability... and that ain't gonna happen!
    The average person just doesn't have the resources to go up against the corporate lawyers and probably lose. Not fair - just reality...
