The resonator is supposed to get rid of that frequency where you are talking about 1700-2k rpm.

Install the resonator, it will get rid of it. I have the 10" and i almost feel like it's stock until I get on it

Install the resonator, and after you drive it for a week or so, and after it heats up a couple times, the exhaust "retunes" and it does quiet down a bit.

Did you install the resonator? I had Keith's 12 inch system (like yours) on a previous Tundra, and I thought it sounded pretty close to stock (just deeper toned) on the inside. Outside sound was a different story.

If not, try it with resonator. If yes, then Good luck with the 14 inch system.

Ok guys, I didn’t get in on the group buy because I’m just not ready yet. Then, random searching on Craigslist and what pops up.......Dirty Deeds 8” stainless exhaust, one month old! I pick it up Saturday, grabbed it for $400. Dude sold his 18 Tundra due to fuel mpg’s, took all the aftermarket stuff off.

How many of you guys have the 8” stainless steel setup and did install the resonator? Is it needed on the 8”?

Nice find!!! Welcome to the family. I have an 8” stainless, had it about 5 months. I didn’t put the resonator on yet. It has a little drone on the highway, but it’s not unbearable.

Thanks! I couldn’t turn that deal down. Does the resonator just tame it a little?

It was explained to me like a light switch. Keith said once you have it installed it instantly kills drone.

The main reason I haven’t installed it is because I really like the sound, and don’t want to tame it down, but I think it only kills the drone. I think the exhaust still has a great roar.

Mine will be off my truck in like a month... going full headers and TRD replacement now.

The 8” won’t make me the attention seeker in the neighborhood will it? I don’t want every time I push the gas to have rumble and shit, just was going to upgrade to spice it up a little.

Thanks for that explanation. Finally got to do some highway driving and noticed the drone. Mine’s barely tolerable. I’m sure I could get used to it, but I have a feeling it’ll be unbearable for my wife, though. Like you, I really like the sound otherwise and don’t want to lose it. So although I’m hesitant to resonate it, I’ll likely have to do so anyway to keep the wife happy.

Anyway, I noticed others describe a drone at a certain RPM range. Mine isn’t like that, though. It only occurs at around 68 mph and above.

Either way, curious to know from others their experiences on the sound difference after installing the resonator.

I might stick the resonator on this upcoming weekend. If I do that, I’ll try and let y’all know the difference. But yeah, mine kind of only drones at highway speeds. I don’t spend much time on the highway, but if I ever make like an hour long drive on the highway or longer, it starts to get pretty annoying. Haha

I hear ya. I do a lot of highway driving here in Texas. Long trips can be routine. Likelihood of the drone annoying the wife seems high with the kind of driving we do sometimes.

If you end up installing the resonator, please post a video clip and give us your thoughts on the difference in sound, if any.

Easy... just need a 2” Milwaukee hole dozer. If you watch Keith’s install video on YouTube, you’ll see how easy it is. Just fit the resonator on the tailpipe with the tailpipe still on the truck. Trace a line around where you want to cut the resonator out, and then stick a hole saw in that thing. Once you got your hole, line your resonator back up and clamp it on with the supplied clamps.

I need to do a video or 6”/8” side by side anyways because my brother just got his 8”. Maybe I can make a video pre and post resonator if I notice any difference in sound.

I guess that depends on how sensitive your neighbors are. But for me, it’s not too loud or obnoxious. It’s a bit louder and more aggressive, but only when you step on the gas. But that’s just my opinion.

I’d rather not list. My wife might see it.
Sorry for the dumb question.... Sounds like everyone has a drone issue with these exhausts. Is there a reason why not everyone is putting on the resonators? Is it a cost factor or kinda tames the sound?

The resonator tames the interior sound, not really the exterior sound. Best way I can describe it....The resonator keeps most of the sound at the tailpipe, but you can hear the outside sound from the inside. Without the resonator, the exhaust sound fills the cab more.

Tools required are drill, hole saw, wrenches or ratchet/socket. The only one most have to buy is saw bit which is only 10 bucks or so - not too expensive.

I personally just had to get over drilling a hole in the tailpipe, but it’s not to bad if you take your time.

I did my resonator install during my lunch at work with the tailpipe still on the truck. Most of the time was drilling the hole, took about 20 minutes.

The 8" will get some attention even at low speeds when you get on the gas. Maybe the 10" is more suited for you. The 8 isnt bad or overwhelming but its noticeable

Not a dumb question at all! I was too excited to wait to hear and drive it once I installed the 8”. And now that I’ve installed it, I like the sound so much when driving around town that I’m reluctant to mess with it.

As for drilling holes, I’ve drilled through frames before, so I don’t think using a hole saw on a relatively thin tailpipe will be too hard. I might do it when I get the time, though, just to alleviate the in-cab drone for my wife’s sake.
