I have been interested in the SABM kit for a while for added availability of air. However I was not excited about the $80- $100 price tag for something so simple.
I made some modifications to my TRD CAI on my Tacoma to include the addition of the Volant ram air. I used PVC parts and coupler to complete a factory look. This is what inspired me to look at how I could complete something similar on my Tundra stock box.

The second reason for looking at a mod like this is because there is so much talk on all the forums about how a CAI is a waste on a Tundra and the stock box is just as good with a high flow filter and added hole for extra air.

I started by looking at the pvc parts that I used for my Tacoma.
Here is the parts list that I came up with.

    3" x 3" flexible coupler
    3" cleanout adaptor
    3" adaptor

The price for this mod is:6.44+3.64+3.98= $14.06
This will get the job done but will most likely need some modifications to the components to fit and function properly. The black cleanout adaptor would be inside the air box so it would be good to cut off the thread section just leaving a small thicker flange to keep it inside the air box. Also the coupler might be a little too long. There are many alternatives to this coupler. Online there are hoses you can get to work and match with 3" hose clamps. I chose not to install this as i decided it might look like its jury rigged.

Alternatively the better looking and simpler way of completing the SABM is with parts that can be found at any parts store.

    Air duct mounting plate
    Intake coupler

The price for this mod is: 5.99+5.99+7.99= $19.97

I will be purchasing and installing soon. Write up to follow below.

Lol good idea. Then I could test it out and report back findings. If not good then I could just swap and be back to normal without a patched hole.

So i.joined the tundra crew group on facebook, there is a fella that did this using spectre brand parts from auto zone and.I think he was in it for $19.98

BUT!!! another fella on that post said he did same.and it voided his warranty cause he cut his stock airbox and fenders...so now I'm 2nd guessing doing this cause I had all plans.of doing it during the long weekend coming up...

That's what happened when I used an afe filter. It seemed like I had a tad more pep, but after a few hundred miles and the ecu compensated... By by low end.

Ok so maybe I'm not doing this mod after all.
Well it's a savings for those that have a supercharger and need more air.

if you don't, let me know and I'll send the box to Virgil. I hate that messing with our intakes does nothing for power. It would be a lot of fun if it would result in power.

I never completed this install. I couldn't find the evidence on a non-supercharged truck that this actually helped in any way.

I did this to my 2018 Tundra a few months back ,and I did notice a slight increase in power and acceleration, gas mileage about +1 mpg But the growl was very noticeable, I did not buy the actual gtek sabm kit.. I just ordered these parts on Amazon and i bought some silicon and used that to seal it.. Over all it was easy I used a Dremel to cut the ridges in the air duct took me about 30 minutes

I ordered two of those air duct mounting plates..

He revived the dead! More importantly it shows that people know how to use the search function!

@ksuma831 Is the MPG increase that you noticed or did the ECM tune it out?

This plus the DIY intake tube makes the engine sound better and it feels like it is more responsive. No regrets
