I was a jarhead groundpounder who hopped a ride on a lot of KC-135's from Beale AFB to Okinawa and back, on several different tours. Got to see several refueling missions on the Blackbird. The KC-135 was cold as hell.

Not a KC type a communicator here, did help program Raven pods. Dating myself (possibly before both of you) but during a Wichita tour I regularly issued codes to a Stratotanker boom OP named Sinbad...yeah the comedian. At the time, as big as he was he couldn't stay off the rebellion radar. His saving grace at the time he was his popular with the base CC thanks to tops in blues.

Enjoyed my time though, living near McChord now.

Way cool. Lots of us military guys/gals here. We all have great experiences to tell. I really like this KC thread. You always hear about how cool the fighter jets are but the KC's and crew don't get the recognition that they deserve. Unsung heroes. Hell...AF KC's refueled a lot of Marine aircraft too and Navy...

I'm in a reserve KC-135 unit at Seymour. Been a flightline crew chief for about 5 years and done a couple dozen TDYs and short couple of months at Incirlik in 2017. Been a fun ride but I'm about to transfer to the NC Air National Guard in Charlotte to be a C-17 loadmaster.

CC on the active side. I think he just took a new job though until they close down the active side of the 135s

I and the rest of my platoon were properly reprimanded for playing with the fueling boom on one while flying back from Panama circa 1995. We didn't know it was on, lol. I just wanted to lay down there and look out of the little window. Next thing i know, we were taking turns going down there and at some point, one of us figured out we could move the boom around.

Sooo, apparently, you can feel that through the whole plane; up front the most. A few minutes into it the copilot (?) came back there with his hair on fire. Yeah... it was a quiet ride home from there on out.

As a SEABEE deployed to Doha, Qatar had a KC135 wing there as well and they took us up 4 at a time to run refueling missions. I got some really awesome pics that not to many SEABEEs would’ve been able to get.

I had many trips over the pond in the back of a 135 with pallets of equipment (normally 5 pallets and 10 pax). So GD cold. After an 8hr flight, our bottled water was a frozen block of ice. After that first trip, I learned to hand carry my sleeping bag and pack thermals in my 72hr. bag.
