Am I crazy for considering a 2014 1794 with 200k?

So I’ve been looking for a tundra. I’m not new to the Toyota family, I have an 01 LX470 with 270k, a 92 Land Cruiser with god knows how many miles, and most of my family drives older Lexus’s. I know how bulletproof they can be.

I found a 2014 1794 edition. Crewmax, all the right options, black/brown and been in the south all it’s life. Super nice truck for 16k. I’m pretty tempted, mainly because I don’t drive a ton and it would just kind of be a spare vehicle and from shopping 2nd gen’s I don’t think it would be too hard getting rid of it for close to that a year or two from now.

But still, that’s a lot of miles and I know it’s the first year of the 3rd gen. Any advice?

Should be fine for your situation, depending if the ppi checks out. Offer the seller 12k. They will be struggling to sell it at 16k with those miles.

Really? I would of thought being a 1794 it’d be worth the 16 all day long. I see them regularly advertised for 27ish with 90-100 on them. But I know it’s super hard to value something like that.

Newer isn’t really an option. I’m cheap and I’m really just looking for a 3rd vehicle anyway. It’ll sit a lot. I was really trying to just find a good 2nd gen and then I found this for 2nd gen kind of money. I’m a sucker for these loaded trims, but really I’m just looking for something I can keep for two years and sell for something close to what I bought it for. Maybe a 11-12 platinum with lower miles fits that bill better

Just my 0.2, but it sounds like a good deal. Just my little story, I sold my 2007 with 198k two and half years ago for 16.5. SR5 4X4 CrewMax, clean as it could be. I was only asking 16 for it, two guys kinda got in a bidding war. That’s the first time anything like that has happened to me, I usually loose money.

I just took a quick stroll on Craig list, in the first 10 adds there was 3 07s with 190-214k. All asking over 14k. Just saying, maybe it’s my area?

Well, if you WANT to spend 16,000 grand ...

Screw giving 16 grand for a truck with 200,000 miles on it, even if its a Tundra.

Better to spend 10 grand more and get something with only 75,000 miles [you get the idea].

I mean, if there is a bidding war for trucks with 200,000 miles on them, maybe that's a group you don't want to be part of ... o_O

Look, even THEY are thinking, It's got 200,000 miles on it! They didn't price that truck for what they would sell it for; they're pricing it for what they want to sell it for [with room to drop to what they will actually take for it].

They want it off the lot.

I wouldn't give that much for it. I bet a lot of other folks are like that too.

How much is it actually worth? As much or as little as someone will give them for it.

I wouldn't want that many miles, so I would low-ball them. If you DO want that truck, tell them something like, "I'll give you $13,500 for it, today."

Then, at least you could get it for $15,000. My point is this: why would you want to overpay for it?

At least check NADA and KBB, to make sure its close to value. For 3rd vehicle, not putting mega miles on it, should be great. In a few years the average mileage per year will be less, helping your value.

Check it for cam tower leak and rear main seal leak, and CarFax

If it runs good and everything works, it should be a good truck.

2014 was more of a refresh than a real "new year" for these trucks. Everything under the metal (aka the important bits) are from 2007 essentially. If there were any issues they would be with the interior- radio and displays mainly. Even the steering wheel was introduced in 2010 on the 4Runner so there shouldn't be any issues with the buttons etc. I would take it to get a good pre-purchase inspection and see about your usual Toyota dealership providing the maintenance performed by them on the truck. Don't let these guys tell you it's too much money if that's what your local market is offering.

Just curious if any of you guys with a clean 1794 with 100k would take 26 for it? Here is what NADA has to say about the one with 200k on it. Again “my area “. 0506BEE1-6CA0-432D-AF8B-166737D7A2AA.jpgA743AE70-EB87-4E9F-9325-86C17B6D8249.jpg

That truck is easily worth $20k in my area.

I purchased my '07 almost 2 years ago when it had 270k on it, I'm almost at 285k now and loving it.

Have it inspected & checked by a couple independent shops before you make your decision.

Ya, do your research within your local market and see what other trucks in the area are going for with similar mileage. This will not only give you comfort knowing what the market thinks the truck is worth or isn’t, and it’ll give you a plan B and C if this truck doesn’t work out. Assuming this is the original owner? If so, the truck average 33,000 per year. Either the truck was used for all the kids in the city to get to and from soccer practice or it was used for a lot of highway miles, I think it’s most likely the latter. 200,000 miles in 6 years doesn’t seem as scary than a 2007 with 200,000 miles.

The truck is well worth the money in my opinion, it’s at a dealer auction that a friend has access to. One owner, always been serviced, just a trade in at some new car store. Thing is it’s just being sold as-is (everything over 150k really is) so all I really know for sure is the engine and trans “seem” fine.

Those places don’t do too much in the way of inspections and guarantees

bought a 2012 crewmax with 171,000 did a lot of research drove it a few times, had my mechanic check it out and located the service records for it at a local dealer so I had a good idea it was well taken care of, 4,000 miles later no problems, I live in NE Pa. clean, affordable, loaded Tundras are pretty hard to find, I was looking for a year or so to find what I have and took a chance but so far really happy with my Tundra! I paid $17,000 but like another person posted check the local prices in your area for similar trucks.
