Who has them and are they worth it? I’ve been looking at them for months but not sure which one to go with.

My bad, the one that goes in the middle of your rear bumper like the Weathertech one.

Looks badass but not sure if I’d rely on that as an anchor point because it’s still only held in place by the pin....

The Weathertech is nice for use as a step if you're going up and over the tailgate. I have a Smittybilt beaver step that I leave in in the winter for the people that like to get a little close on slippery streets.

Only reason the TGL one has my interest is the uneven pattern on top for better traction with bad weather. How is that one to use in winter time?

The Smitty doesn't offer much traction when it's wet. I've honestly never used it as a step, I just keep it in for protection. I think the weathertech would be the best for stepping on.

I have the Smittybilt beaver step... got it to protect us and the truck. Def keeps drivers backed off once they notice it and just about everyone notices it lol. I’d recommend it and would buy the same one again.

Are you saying that you're concerned that the steel/metal from the hitch insert wouldnt be strong enough to pull something out or using actual hitch shouldn't be used as a recovery point? I've used the hitch (with regular tow hitch/ball attached to strap) to pull a 3 axle big'ol uhaul out of my neighbors ditch without issue... (Should I have used another point?)

Either way he's out and I got free beer out of it soo... :)

Also... That hitch is bad as heck @dandailey - think you just spent more of my money!!! Dang this forum..

I've searched long and hard a few years ago and the best one, along with the best service after the sale, that I've found is SuperBumper.

Wife went through two bouts of Physical Therapy from two separate 'Cell Phonie' accidents, getting hit while the other driver's face was buried in their phone. We bought the Super Bumper to help absorb some of the shock/damage, for the next time it happens. It's mounted on her Pilot. My Tundra's hitch stays attached+ I have a Besttop "old guy step" to help with stuff in the truck bed.

I read on here once where a member got a slight hit in the rear hitting his hitch bump or his ball can't remember he was shocked the frame bent a little. So I stayed away from anything in my hitch let the bumper take the shock.

I've read that too. Our hitches are supported by the frame, so no doubt frame damage will result from the right impact.

Second the old guy step (AMP)... I've had them on all my pick ups, works when tailgate is down (when you need it), out of the way and doesn't break your knee caps when walking around the truck while it's parked in the garage.

+1 not sure what people are trying to accomplish insinuating they install things so ppl "back off" lol it's acting as a lever on the frame if loaded from the side. Just doing more damage to your own vehicle, like brush guards.

I have the weathertech one. First one saved my bumper from more damage by absorbing most of the impact. The plastic neck is built to crumple during an accident. Worked great, anything metal would have caused frame damage.

All depends on what you want a rear step to do. Just installed AMP Research Bedstep. Excellent quality, clever engineering. Perfect for a step up to the tailgate to get into the back of the truck. https://www.amp-research.com/all-products?cat=42
