Looking forward to seeing how these look.
My LED head lights needed an extra resistor pack for the lights to work while the fogs lights are on.

Forgot to mention that that might be a possibility. My truck doesn't have fogs. If it is needed, SuperBrightLeds sells the required resistors.

These may, as well, per one 1st Gen reviewer. Not sure if the reviewer was running halogen fogs or not, but when I was dealing with HR and stated that I was running their PerfectFit LED 9006 Fogs they said that should eliminate any problem with needing the Headlight resistor. Alas, these are Katanas (look just like SuperNovas) and who knows how they will react?

Install slated for tomorrow evening unless I get the itch tonight. Muuuhhaaa!!!

How do you like those? I was planning to buy those but read that they only recommend setting em to 1 inch on access cabs. Fuck that. So I went with Toytech boss

Yeah boys. Confirmed a go go on a quick plug and play test run. Ran it through all the possible options. Flashed the hi beams and man did the garage light up! Won’t know how the beam patterns perform until final install.

Will be using the brand new housing assys tomorrow and pulling the battery and rad reservior out of the way to make for clean installation.

Pic 1 with DTR (stick in full off position).

Pic 2 with low beam headlights and fogs (stick in full on position). Fogs button in on position.

Ok, thanks! Your description earlier tipped me off to those spout looking things on each side. I wonder how locked up the 10mm bolts might be. Last Full Flush Service was when a new radiator was installed at 124k miles (now at 163k) and they put in the green coolant for some reason.

Just did a double drain and flush last week and now feel confident to do a complete drain (using those engine plugs) and convert back to the pink ‘phosphate’ enhanced HOAT type pink that the Toyota calls for.

Should I open both plugs/spouts and drain? Or, just the one?

I realize its probably difficult to drain the entire block of its coolant, but thats my desire... then go with the Zerex Asian Pink.

I like them. They were on the truck when I bought it about a month ago. Thinking I will pair it with 5160s in the rear. Seems like a good combo when options are relatively limited for the first gens.

    Both is the only
Sure fire way to get then most out, won’t get it all, but damn near close. They usually come out without too much effort since they’re brass

Thank you! Bought it new in spring of 02’ for somewhere around $27k out the door. She has been very good to me and never let me down in all these years. Decided to put some extra love back into her starting last year.

I think they go INSIDE the housing. :D
So those are just plug and play? No fighting with anything? And cheap too?

$50! They look from outward appearances to be the same as the SuperNovasV.4. Same packing, look, factory, specs, etc.

    Reviews are pretty good.

They plug right up and everything works. I do have PerfectFit 9006 Fog LED bulbs already installed (another great product) and the Fogs work. No problems that I could see from a quickie test run. Will know more once installed tomorrow. Lots of rain here today keeping me from a full install.

I’ll probably put together the housing assy today so tomorrow will go a little faster.

I'll be keeping an eye out. I've never been too concerned with LEDs after seeing prices and work involved, but that doesnt look to bad.

    I hear you.

The PerfectFits Fogs are plug and play with no cooling fans (about $130) and are the best bulb for that tight space/fitment. Was leery of the price, but once installed truely believe they are worth the $$$ which led me to the SuperNovas but they are backed up on delivery.

Found these Katanas and the reviewers were mostly ecstatic with performance and the price of $50 was a bonus. I think I paid around $40 for the Sylvanias Ultras Halogen incandescents about 6 months ago. Light output is ok on them, but $40 vs. $50? This is a no brainer if the Katanas perform well in the reflector AND last at least a few years.

Really digging the pure white lighting. Not blue white or yellow white. Just straight white. These fit the bill.

BTW, I looked to see if Katanas makes a PerfectFit style 9006 Fog plug and play WITHOUT a fan and they do not. It has a fan and driver pack (bulky in the bumper space).

Hopefully installing at least the shocks today. The bumps might have to wait. And my husband is currently welding up our sleeping platform for the bed camper setup.

Thought about how relaxed I will be when I hop into my truck for the first time in 10 days, haven't driven in ten days and my feet are tired of walking.

Then I ate a cannoli and figured I'll be home in a day.

Got the Tundra back. Alas, still air in the p/s with obligatory whining. Guess I'll have to drive that out of it. Also had a sticking caliper they replaced. Think there's air in that too as braking is now jerky. Can't get good help, but it's done. Also mounted 'summer tires/rims'.
These are a set of 2018 Tacoma TRD takeoff's. Color match is unexpected bonus.

Took advantage of a break in the rain and installed the Katanas LED headlamps. The beam pattern looks real good up on the garage door. Nice and flat with that good star check shape pattern coming off the center portion of the beam on Low Beam. High Beam looks very bright even during the day.

DTR works at the same intensity as the Low Beam, whereas prior DTR was a slightly dimmer version of Low Beam using halogens.

Cannot hear the fans even with the engine off.

Right now I feel good about these working properly in the night time. I’ve purposely aimed them a little lower and will adjust up after testing them out tonight and report back.

I'm really looking forward to your review. I've been wanting to do a retrofit for months now but other things keep proving more important. So maybe I'll snag these to hold me over until I can build my headlights.

Changed oil. Mobile 1 full synthetic on sale at China-Mart.

Did my first drain and fill of the transmission. Realized I was stupid for paying the shop to do something that's actually easier than changing the oil. I got out just over 4 qts by gently rocking it back and forth.

AutoZone sells a funnel for $2.50 that's perfect for our trucks and they had the Valvoline full synthetic ATF on sale. Truck shifts wonderfully.

The 6 month progression. The Sylvania Ultras have yellowed a bit in only 6 months time due to the blue coating burning off?

Not a problem, hopefully they work out over the long term for the both of us. LED technology has progressed enough over the last decade that these cheaper bulbs really should be able to compete with the more expensive offerings even in reflector housings and so far these definitely hold their own.

Yes it seems as if even last summer many of the LED reviews were not good and the price$$$ made it not palatable to test out. I held off waiting and seems the price and quality are meeting a happy space. The reviews are about a year old on these Katanas and didn’t see anyone complaining about burn outs or flicker problems.
