What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

You have a pic of this plug so we know what to look for?

 

Did you end up replacing these after you caulked them? Happen to have the part # for the cowls? Mine leaks occasionally and I need to fix it.

 

I’ll have to grab a pic tomorrow, it’s towards the back of the engine. One on each side. Little 10mm bolt that has a spout it’s threaded in to drain the banks of the block

 

Dropped the Tundra at the mechanics to replace the blown power steering line. Just want to say - plastic steering wheel, big nubby tires, big heavy truck - I haven't felt that heavy steering since the 1972 Station wagon we had that used to stall & die often. I have a car w/ no p/s & it's hard, but the Tundra - whoa! That's a tough vehicle to steer w/o assist. LOL

having them put in a whole kit - lines, hoses, clamps. All issues addressed & done by Saturday, I couldn't even think to start it before then. Had them mount the summer tires/rims (aka winter bed weights) while they have it. Hoping/assuming they'll fit, they're take offs from a 2018 Tacoma 6 lug. Pictures this weekend (assuming they fit - LOL).

Replaced everything from the Cat back. I had holes in both my muffler and resonator. Couldn't be happier now, the heater fan is louder than the engine.

 

I did that a couple years ago. Didn't realize how loud it was until it wasn't lol. Had to look at the tach to make sure it actually started.

 

Just clean up the old ones and caulk them in as pictured in the original post. As far as the little clips, those are special order.

 

Yeah. I actually thought I had screwed something up at first because it didn't sound like it had actually started when I fired it up afterwards. This is really an amazingly quiet engine when the exhaust system is working properly.

 

Yes it is very quiet. Wait till you sound proof your cab and its even quieter inside the cab. Here is a pic of a muffler patch I did which looks like it matches up with your small side hole on yours. Used organic two part epoxy and some aluminium patch scrap metal. Musket Brown was the best match. Holding nicely after about 6 months.

That's what I'm asking. Why did you buy new ones if you had already caulked them? Did they still leak? Or am I confusing 2 different parts here.

 

The caulked clips are separate from the lower cowl clips. Different parts. Caulk as pictured. Buy the circled parts as when you pull the cowl off, then you’ll have back ups because those are brittle and break easily. Go pull off your cowl for practice and you’ll see what I mean. Takes about 10 minutes to pull it off.

 

Do u have any rub and curious are u at stock hieght

 

Jerry, if I just wanted to do the doors and rear cab area would 1 box be enough? I have no interest in doing the roof and floor.

edit-I'm an idiot. I should have read your post closer. Looks like 1 box should be enough.

 

One box (should) be ok. I'd order two in case you have extra time and want to do more. Better to have to much then to run out.

Also, its not necessary to cover every square inch with the matting. Strategic and spaced out is better. Full coverage doesn’t equate to better. It doesn’t hurt doing full coverage, but save your money and space it out.

I read this one sound guys website who does sound matting for a living and he was using 2x2 squares spaced out a few inches apart. He did load up around the speakers and behind the speakers. Some science behind it, but I’m not an expert.

I think long tube headers and no Cat's will make it a bit louder .

 

Hey guys. Been lurking around this site and especially this thread since I bought my used 2001 Tundra about 6 months ago. I had a 2000 Tacoma 2wd prior and I do tons of camping and I was always wishing it was 4wd. Well I found this Tundra V6 and have been really enjoying it. It's a manual transmission! Only had 76,000 miles on it too! Anyways, I look at this site daily and have been starting to do upgrades on it, and because of sites like this I've tackled some of the work on it myself for the first time. Well just wanted to finally say hello and show you guys what I got.

I upgraded the suspension to Bilstein 5100 front and rear and just added a Wheeler's Progressive AAL in the back. I went to the third notch on the 5100 up front and the aal in back gave me about 1.5" lift all around. And got some BFG 265/75 16 All Terrains as well.

 

No rubbing. Front is lifted on 6112s.
