    Hey Guys and Gals,
Looking at putting a ranch hand grille guard on my 2019 Tundra. But with all the safety tech in the Toyota Emblem, apparently others have had issues with the ranch hand. I have been told by ranch hand that if I custom order without the "mesh" That "should work fine" but it is still special order and if it doesn't...tough luck! Has anyone out there done this special order for a 2019 and if so have you had any issues?

    Thanks!

I had the same question months ago. At one point i remember seeing a post where the guy had just cut out the center mesh and rust proofed it. he said it worked like it was supposed to.

@SC_TUNDRA a member on here got the full replacement bumper on here and he cut out the mesh section in the middle, believe he said no issues with sensor, and for the sensors on bumper caps you have to drill holes out believe he said too

I would just order the bumper replacement the way it is with the mesh and cut it out. The sonar millimeter sensor in the grill projects a 5 degree vertical and 20 degree horizontal beam. I could have left more mesh on and wish I did but I wanted to make sure it worked. Sorry for the pictures out of order.

My humble opinion keep it stock that bumper belongs on a semi truck.

I’m a shift worker for the local utility company and work around the clock, I don’t know how many times I’ve almost creamed A deer and it’s a joke how flimsy the grill is, also if you crawl underneath and look at where the actual bumper is, it actually sits back about 4 inches from the grill. Even some butt head in a parking lot backer into the front of our trucks it could damage the grill so I put a real bumper on there that actually is tied to the frame

Thanks for your opinion though but I rather not have a $4000 expense if a deer walks out in front of me.

Funny you said this because I just hit a deer last week. Cracked the hood bulge, grill and grill surround. Plus it shifted the middle bumper section. And I barely hit this deer. The cost to replace all of those pieces is stupid expensive. So I will be going ranch hand route.

Is there an issue with these big bumpers that tie pretty directly into the frame causing frame damage during an impact that would cause the OEM bumper system to crumple instead?

id rather have some broken plastic than a bent frame. this thing is going to do way more damage to the vehicle vs stock set up, esp as it gets pushed back. plus it looks absolutely horrendous.

Negative. The braces are steel tied to the frame. The “bumper” is aluminum and it sits back behind the plastic covering. I’m more concerned about hitting 100 to 250 pound animal A head on collision or a T-bone accident will have frame damage regardless again I’m more worried about the other bits like the fenders Hood radiator support

That’s fine options are like butt holes. I can’t stand the stupid 3”1” lift that is b basically saying I only drive my truck around like an SUV or car

and that's exactly what the tundra is made for, a grocery getter with a 6' bed...
because if real work needs to get done, its out of the capabilities of a tundra, and better suited for something like an F-250 and up.

1/2 ton trucks get it done everyday. That’s why I didn’t waste my money on a short bed and got the 8 footer. Have fun with your grocery snatcher. I’ll keep working my tundra like the truck it is.

Had a Westin HDX on my 2015 Tundra. Would have had to special order without the center mesh. For it to fit my 2018. Then if it arrived with damage or didn't work. I'd be sol. Went with a Luverne that is open in front of the emblem. The sensors work fine. About $900 installed. Hit a deer before the westin was installed. $5500 in damage. Put the westin on. Got side swiped trying to avoid a careless driver. Took out the left side of a Jeep commander. Only some scratches and a little dent to the bar around the headlight. Say what you will. If you hit anything at speed. Your gonna have damage. Grille guard or not.20190428_161619.jpg
