Maybe.....MAYBE....I'd pay $250 for this. Anything over that is a no-go

joining to follow. It might make sense for the wife's 4Runner if prices come down to reality.

So it’s just a software update and nothing actually gets replaced?

Why on earth would starting price be damn near $1000?

It's a module that plugs into the back of the factory headunit.

Mainly because it's unique and no one else is going to complete with this. Unless a competitor comes out and low balls this, price isn't going to drop for any reason. And because there are people out there willing to pay for this.

Isn't America great though? You're not just paying for the module or whatever but you're paying for the "idea" and the invention behind this. It takes time/money and energy to build/write/code in order for this to work with the OE deck.

Yes, it's outrageously priced but I'm sure someone will buy it.

I don’t see many people paying $1000 to “upgrade” their stock head unit. Half that and maybe he will sell enough to be worth his while.

The more I think about this, if he can get in with local dealers he could get it as an add-on to the sticker. Maybe put it as part of a convenience package. People will more than likely go for it then, but I don't see it happening to pre-existing units.

The dongle that gives my Android HU CarPlay capability costs around $60. They’re crazy asking that much and it does nothing for sound quality.

You’re best to change out the stock HU to a Kenwood or Pioneer with CarPlay, the improvement in SQ is instantly noticeable. I couldn’t believe how much crisper and louder it got when I upgraded mine, stock everything else.

Supply and demand. I'm all for a free market but if most are like me, they won't sell many at that price and price will come down. I like the idea though

I know that dongle is not going to turn my factory HU into that 12" screen but if this is all it takes, why all this other noise?

Anyone on Tundras using this dongle now? I'm confused, this dongle works with FACTORY HU?

It only works on Android HU's because it's an android product, for its operating system and associated app.

Thanks for the answers, Well this is as good a place to ask this than anywhere.
I'd like a replacement unit that does Android Auto that does not look like it's aftermarket. One that looks totally OEM. I'm half death so I'm not real worried about crankin' bass and "quality audio", I'm more about functionality, Map, messaging, that sort of stuff.
    Any suggestions?

Try crowdsourcing your research here, listed from price up, Android auto capable, 2018 SR5, nonJBL I’m assuming based on your profile, read reviews.
