Any decent short antennas?

i have looked but it seems a lot get crappy reception. I like the look but I also like to listen to the radio sometimes when not streaming music. Does anyone have a short antenna that performs well and looks good?

 

I have been looking at the same thing. I like the look but was curious about the quality. They are under 10 bucks on ebay for a colored TRD antenna.

 

Just ordered mine a couple days ago from Amazon. Hated the stock, but even with no antenna, I still get reception in the city, plus I don't listen to the radio much.

most of them are so so..I ended up putting back my stock one..I wouldn't mind a slightly shorter one but that gets good reception.

 

7.99 on ebay it might be worth trying out

 

antennaX makes some good ones. I wouldnt go too short if you actually listen to the radio. My 13" does great in town but I do notice that I lose signal a little sooner than stock when I leave town.

 

thats what i was wondering that one i showed is 4.7" seems a little to small. but i have had cars with the shark fin antenna that were awesome.

 

Yea I had an Acura ILX that had the shark fin and had great reception. Kinda strange

 

Looking at this myself but I read some reviews saying that the carbon fiber peels off exposing a dingy yellow/copper color underneath. Any issues with yours?

I have the 6" Antenna X Stubby. I don't listen to radio (listen to satellite) so it was more for the size/look. Haven't tried out reception yet.

 

I'm using the Antenna X Stubby as well. Mainly preferred the look, and the in town radio is fine for what I'm used to listening to. No complaints here.

I've got the stubby antenna and the reception is awful. Someone on here did real life testing of different antennas, think it was matluth (sorry for butchering the name). I've played with attaching a wire to the other side of the stubby and hiding it in the wheel well and I can actually improve the reception. I haven't had time but thought I'd try soldering the wire to the bottom of the stubby and running it up the pillar alongside the windshield.

 

I bought the TRD stubby antenna from Amazon. Looked OK but reception was awful on both AM & FM. Sent the piece of crap back to them. Here's a link to the one I bought.

I was thinking about buying a stubby antenna the other day and remember reading about the test someone did while they where driving around town. @Law323 posted the thread above that has a lot of good info on this subject.

 

There are a lot of decent aftermarket antennas out there. I did a write up on a few of them previously here on the forum. One thing for sure is it's hard to find the perfect antenna that will get decent reception anywhere. I keep three different lengths in my under seat storage bin. Only takes a few seconds to swap. All depends where I'm at. Flatland, mountains, canyons, in the city. Antenna X is pretty good.

 

I have tried several stubby and shorter ones but can't get the HD to work. If you have apps like for traffic and weather maps etc they don't work without an HD antennae. Have to remove mine every time I go thru a carwash.

 

I use my stock antenna as a guide at my works parking structure. When it hits the concrete ceiling I know I'm close to my roof..lol

 

I have one of these, installed for about one month now. I don't know if the carbon fiber will peel - too early to tell. The reception seems fine, but I mostly listen to the sat radio. My opinion is that it looks too small on the Tundra. I think something in at least the 8 inch range would look better.

 

I'm 99% certain that the Sat Radio antenna is that funny little bump on the roof on the right side of the truck. The old radio antenna is for AM, FM & maybe HD radio. If I'm correct you could remove your standard antenna and not replace it at all and the Sat radio should still work. I'm half way between NY City & Philadelphia dozens of radio stations. When I tried the shorty TRD antenna, I lost between 80-90% of these stations, maybe more. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will let me know.

 

Yes. I am aware that the stubby antenna is for am/fm. That is why I said that it seems fine, but I mostly listen to sat radio. My main complaint is that it is just too short and doesn't look good on my Tundra. If it also receives poor reception as you have experienced, then there are 2 reasons to go with something else.

 

The only one that works for me so far is the 31" antenna that came standard with the truck. I've tried a few others, all shorter, and returned them all due to poor reception.

 

I have a 2016 platinum tundra. Other than compromising my radio reception, are there any other drawbacks of removing the antenna?

 

I'm happy with the antennaX off-road 13".

 

I haven't found one yet...just took my stubby off today and replaced with factory antenna.

 

As someone had mentioned above, no drawbacks but you have to plug the hole.

 

I have a 6 in AMI big stick antenna and mine works fine. I listen to satellite and not the regular radio a lot but when I tested it out after I installed it is couldn't tell the difference

 

What's all the hub bub bout these short stubby antennas are they really better than stock idk much bout this topic can any one fill me in seen few trucks in my area with em
