What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Front brakes and struts.

 

Truck aint going into overdrive.

Ok so here's my problem, my trucks acting like it was when it was pure ice and snow out.
Not shifting down when I put it into 2 and L for engine braking.
No overdrive. So I hit around 3-4k when going around 60pmh
Shifts at super low rpms even when foot is to the floor. Only way to stop it is choose L or 2 to keep rpms up
It has done it 2 or 3 times since the last snow with was a month ago.

Any ideas? Comments?
Any help will be amazing or links to previous threads on this.

Get your transmission warm and while it’s idling check your fluid level.

the res is stained. nothing i can do about it. unless i want to replace it. but meh. The brake fluid looks kinda shitty for only being 11 months old

 

Fill it so when you check it at warm/hot the fluid is at the top line.

 

I had transmission issues and it turned out to be my solenoids. I checked which tranny I had by looking at the tag along the drivers side door frame. Verified I have the A340F.

Below is the link to the solenoids that fit my tranny. Says they won't fit, but they fit mine perfectly. The ones that come up as fitting did not have the right brackets. Just a heads up. Also, these have been installed for maybe 1500 miles and have been flawless. Truck shifts amazing.

It's also worth mentioning that before I swapped out the solenoids I did have a code that it was throwing, but from what I understand not all code scanners read tranny codes.

 

Between the low and full lines would still be low, I’d add until full just for a cheap verification.

 

After filling it to full when it's warm, if nothing changes (if it does change, find where your leak is) I would get the transmission fully flushed at a place that uses something that utilizes a cleaning agent like this...

If that doesn't work, I'd go the solenoid route mentioned below...the flush will probably cost your $100-200 for an A340F...so even if you have to go the solenoid route
you should be in the sub $300 range.

 

Not too remarkable. People are always shocked when I have to go around them or coming down from our property. Places that Jeep's struggle to go.

255/85 would be nice, but Michelin doesn't make that size and I want a street tire and I love michelin. With lockers front and rear I have never been in a situation I couldn't get through.

 

Are those the 16" wheels or 17"?

 

16". Came off a Tacoma.

 

what size are the skinnies you have on now?

 

235/85r16 with 1.25 spidertrax wheel spacers. OME 2.5 lift with AAL.

 

Equals 31.7x9.3 I think

 

What’s yo lift?

 

OME from toytec. Came with front coilovers, back shocks, AAL, and diff drop washers.

Front and rear lockers are ARB and the switches are below the ash tray, those pick outs.

 

The Woman's car was into the dealership for the airbag recall, so when we picked it up I asked about my coolant leak issue. Looks like the entire block heater will have to be replaced. $280 + tax for that job.

Also talked to them about an alignment. The last shop I took it to left the steering wheel a couple degrees from level. Took it back and it was a bit better, but not much. Most people probably wouldn't notice but it's bugging the shit out of me. $150 + tax for a new alignment.

So $500 or so to get the truck patched up a bit. I'm totally going to be "That Guy" when it comes to the alignment. Gonna put tape lines where I want the wheel and basically say (nicely of course), if it doesn't match these lines when I pick it up, I'm bringing it back. LOL

And as per my recent thread, it would appear I have a buggered cable attached to my heater knob. That'll be addressed once I get around to replacing the burnt out HVAC lights.

Yeah. I like pizza cutters better. Usually end up helping others who jack up and get huge tires.

 

Beach time yesterday on a short day trip to get the stink blowed off. 17 mpg.

 

Made another one click adjustment thru the rear drum peek-a-boo hole on the Star Bit Adjuster using a flathead screw driver. Seems like each adjustment my brakes and parking brake seem to work better (hasn’t been proper in years). Timmeah Toyota taught me this on his youtubes vid.

Scared to go too far on the adjusting as I’ll need to pull the tires/drums off and reset it back. Might do another click tomorrow.

Best description I can give is that I pushed the tops of the Star Bits towards the lug nuts (outside of tire) direction. It will only push and click one way, unless you have a second screw diver to push in the lockers/clickers which allows a reverse adjustment (easier said than done).

Engage the flathead into a grove. Lightly push till a click sound. Test drive. And maybe do it again. Key is not adjusting out too far and having the drums drag. This is why I’m taking it one click at a time and confirming the truck rolls easily in neutral on slight decline.

Parking brake is firming up. Still not perfect, but way better.

 

Got a lil muddy tonight. The Kumhos did pretty well!
