    Hi Guys,
I need some quick help please. Can someone tell me what the name of this part is? It's on the passenger side and the photo's are taken from the ground looking up towards the rear. I'm pretty lucky that my truck is pretty rust free but I just noticed this cancerous part when I was greasing the u- joints this weekend. Thanks.

Thanks. This is laying under the car from the passengers side, looking up from under the back passenger door. My gas cap is on drivers side so I hope its not the fuel tank. How about a floor pan reinforcement? I'll have to climb under again and get a better angle to see what it's bolted to.

Gotta be honest. I go into Vertigo looking at your cockeyed angled photos. A better angle would be helpful.

I'll work on better pics. It pains me to think I'm causing Hand Model gastrointestinal discomfort.

The name of that part per the Toyota Catalog is "emissions related crap thingy". Its right in the center betwixt the gas tank and muffler.

Darkness, thank you sir! I'm both grateful and jealous that yours doesn't have a speck of rust and mine looks like the Titanic.

We now return everyone to their regularly scheduled Professional Hand Model programming.

Thats what I get for paying absurd amounts of money to live in California.

Here you go @remington351 the good news is, the rusty part appears to just be a bracket.

I don’t think mine has that. I looked yesterday, after coming out of Vertigo, to see what remington was picturing.

Tail gate rust. Bummer. Time to PB Blaster and add some grease in that crease?

It's already bled through to the other side... I picked up a replacement tail gate late last year. All it needs it color matching paint, green doesn't look that great with thunder grey metallic.

Thats the same way my tailgate rusted. and I always have my truck oil undercoated or fluid filmed yearly! Body shop said they could repair for $400, but promised me that the rust would return in a couple years cause water gets trapped in crease of tailgate! I have been behind other Tundras here in the northeast and noticed they had rust on the tailgate also.

that makes sense why I didn't recognize it, since I don't live in the part of the country the rest of us would like to cut off. ;)

I'm actually starting to wonder if that box is why I can't fill my gas tank without holding the pump just right.

The dreaded gas pump keeps shutting off at the pump issue! Had the same issue on my silverado a few years ago...took forever to fill all 28 gallons. The issue then was a clogged evap canister vent valve/solenoid. Basically the vapors from the fuel tank and pump nozzle are directed into the evap, but the evap opening was partially closed off. Not enough to trip a check engine light, but the vapor pressure difference would kick the pump handle off every 10 seconds.

    From our friends at GM-Trucks.com
Canister vent valve solenoid. Little black, say 3-4 inches tall cylinder with a connector and some hoses on it. 2010 and prior trucks there is a bulletin for re-routing the filter box for them by moving the filter up towards the transmission with some bulk 5/8 heater hose and installing a new vent solenoid.

Here's what I received from McGeorge Toyota. If you're not buying parts from these guys you should be. They've answered at least half a dozen emails from me, usually within 24 hours. Bummer on the bracket, so I guess I'll just wait for the entire assembly to die, if it ever does. Here's the part number in case future non hand models have this issue.

Unfortunately, that bracket can only be purchased as part of the charcoal canister assembly itself. It's not available as a separate part. The part number for the whole assembly is 77730-0C020.

I’ll crawl under to confirm for sure if I have one of these assys. Truck is wet and dripping right now from chasis being sprayed off. I’ve seen youtubes vids where guys clean out that evap hose and there gas filling problems go away. Something about a clog happening in there.

A light application of Ospho in the crevice, followed by some oil squirts and finally a greased rag run up in there and you’ll be cured.

Never did the old school Toyota trick that guys used to do, but they used to pour oil in their doors to keep the rust off.

Yes. I figured it out this morning and didn’t have the time to flag someone. No biggie if remington doesn’t mind.
