    Hello all

Well i recently purchased a 08 crewmax,i wasnt aware of any issues untill i droped it off at the dealer for a Oil change,i was told it has a really rusty undercariage, luckily there a recall to fix the issue ,after running the CarFax i came to noticed why was there so much rust ,original owner was from the boston MA area, really close to the ocean,i dropped her of at the dealer this morning at Toyota of mamaroneck in Ny, Got myself a tiny loaner (a Rav4) untill they asses the damage... i will keep posting as much updates/pics of the process as possible

That spray will only make it worse, why didn't you look at the frame before you make the purchase?

Once rust starts it needs to be sandblasted off and totally removed. The only other option would be to soak it in acid (like they do for steel I-beams on bridges). Pressure washing it to remove the scale will help but the rust is still there. Covering it also will help but it's not going to stop it. It also comes down to how detailed the mechanics are when they clean the frame and spray it. Since the rust wasn't removed it'll continue. Even stuff like POR15 will not stop it. About the best thing Toyota could do would be to use either Fluid Film or even better LPS-3. But that would require doing it yearly.

So unfortunately my frame isnt that baddly damaged that it would need replacing, so now i gotta wait a few days for an appointment to take her back and get the underbody sprayed...i did see a few frames that were getting ready to be put on other trucks..

If it was me I would wait until summer when it's hot. They are going to pressure wash it and I would want the heat to bake any moisture out before it's sprayed. I think that's the best way to avoid moisture getting trapped under the spray.

I’m surprised the dealership didn’t “find” the necessary perforation needed in the frame to authorize a frame swap. When I had my 07 Tacoma, my dealer “found” some holes I think by pounding a screw driver through the frame. They were doing about 3 frames a day and billing Toyota around $12,000 each.
