Stock FistGen MOD suggestions

I’ve got a 2006 4x4 SR5 Tundra DoubleCab truck. Just purchased last week. It’ll be my daily driver and secondhand farm vehicle. I’ve dedicated my old 2001 F250 Triton v10 for towing and hauling on the farm, so I’d like to keep this one ‘clean’. That being said, if it’s gotta haul or tow, a truck is always gotta be up for truck duties.

I’m looking for suggestions to increase its off-road capabilities, towing capacity, camping comfort, and overall sleek-ass-coolness. I’m a first time Toyota owner, long time lover. I plan on holding on to this truck until I can give it to my daughter as her first vehicle (she’s 5).

Plasti-dipped chrome decals and grill is gonna be a must. Blacked out camper and back window tints would be nice. A bully bar over the front end would look mean, but I’d love to hear what you all think! Please provide links to purchase pages if possible.

In my case, I had to rebuild the tired front end suspension via a shop (seems to be a theme at the 12-15 year old mark). Basically, everything is a new stock set up. A rear

$500 Hellwig 7700 Solid, Heat Treated Chromoly, 1-1/8" Rear Sway Bar

Hellwig 7700 Swaybar helps with towing. Keep all your fluids clean. Tint with a ceramic type film.

Sky is the limit. Plenty of good posters here that are helpful.

 

I’m not a topper fan but love the truck.

One thing I really like about all the trucks I’ve seen on the 1st generation side is moderation. Nothing too extreme which is fine by me. Kinda shocking actually, but very nice.

 

Black paint would do wonders.

 

New to the tundra game....but I'm adding rear air bags at this very moment as the (springs) as it sags way too much with a load.

Next is going to be a flatbed, roll bar/heavy duty lumber/light rack and 'armored' bumper instead of the piece of tin it has on it right now.

Already done: replaced all interior and dash bulbs with LED's.

 

Yeah, start working your way though the "What have you done to your 1st gen today" thread. Also, for a badass off-road poster truck, check out builds by @Casper421 and @Rheywood456. Both have done way more than most of us need, but they're filled with great mod ideas!

Front is mostly together. Bruce put the fenders on today. Plans to pull the bed off and start pulling the back apart this week to start install this weekend.

 

Is that the 2.5” or 3” spacer lift? Are you running the 5100’s on the top notch?

That’s what I was waiting for! Looks like Hulk has skipped a few leg days.

 

Hahahaha, I was all, "whut?!! Spacer lift?" LOL. Yes, 5100's on the top notch. Hoping to fit 37's but don't want a CMC.

I'm kidding. Like you're kidding about these being 5100's.

I don't care how it sits, whether it's level, or even that the fenders don't match and the paint is worn through. I want it to perform well for technical rock crawling or chasing crazy SGU yahoos and BAsTRD's through pole line whoops.

So I'm putting 33's on because I'm sure they'll fit, but if it needs a CMC for this size, or because we go bigger later, we'll do it. I'm a little freaked out by how narrow the hips look compared to the shoulders... but can't dedicate extra money or time now for what is essentially preference over necessity. I've heard Bruce's plans for the truck long-term and, well, getting the suspension dialed in is just the 1st of several stages.

 

No but it's close. You can kinda see in these pics, everything's assembled but not dialed in. We had to throw the wheel spacers that were on before back on, and still have to route and bleed brake lines, do alignment.... As I said, they're teaser pics. This weekend should be good for progress on the back, then we'll start dialing everything in.

 

What is this CV shaft you speak of?

Hey, Riley, what are you using to hold a phone or tablet go off-road navigation? Anything? I keep hearing hondo but can't find confirmation they'll work with a 1st gen Tundra....

 

I think yours is different though. It looks way more functional and less yee, haw!

Whatever that is sounds fun, and I'll probably want to try it! So I hope the truck will function well in 'yee haw!' situations.

 

I use a RAM Suction Cup / Phone Mount. It’s super solid. I put it on Christmas Day and it’s stuck ever since! Quality stuff

I'm a big fan of the 3 inch body lift. Aside from looks, it makes working on the trucks underside a little easier.
