What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I'm not aware of Toyota calling it gen 3...I know wikipedia is not the be all and end all, but they don't recognize it as a gen 3 and I have a hard time believing Toyota doesn't have an employee who's job it is to make sure the wiki entries for their products are somewhat accurate...

My point was:

1) A humorous crack snap on the 3rd Gen guys blowing fuses by a simple bulb change.

Anyways, not interested in a 2nd vs. 3rd Gen discussion because it doesn’t matter to me. This site uses it and so do I (for poking fun of blowing fuses when changing bulbs). I’ll also use the ‘my baby got a boo boo in the parking lot’ joke for 3rd Gen’rs.

 

4th to 5th gen 4runners kept the same drivetrain. I do believe the frame was altered a bit.

 

I only knew of a difference because of the front end cosmetically! Never really knew anything further since I'm a gen 1 guy

 

I was not aware the 4runner was a Toyota Truck... And even then at least they updated it to dual VVti...

The current tundra and the 2nd gen look nothing alike. Completely different sheet metal on the bed, tail gate, front fenders, grill, hood etc. Different shaped tail lights, headlights. Looks like a turd gen to me........ Only thing missing is a new power plant

 

Still waiting patiently for the SuperNova V.4 LED 9003 Bulbs. HR said it would be a long wait as these bulbs are backordered pretty far. Hoping to see them delivered in the next 2-3 weeks. Getting stoked!

 

I never considered this as a wear item. Is there a standard for how often one should replace?

Its not really considered a wear item until they go bad. I did some research and my inquiring mind wanted to know. What I found out was it doesn’t hurt to change it considering the $14 cost.

My personal experience today felt as the springs on the new vs. old had the same push back. The old had more wobble in the spring. The new spring pushed down and back on a straighter line which is what you want to create that lower seal.

Consider the daily pressures on that spring and it gets a real work out. Some mechanics say replace it every 30-50k miles.

 

Ordered up a 2 pack of Bosch Icons as the old wipers are grabbing hard (chattering) on the new glass even though they are only 9 months old. Pretty good price.

 

Let me know if these work for you I just tried to put a set of led headlights in my 2000 and the fog lights stopped working immediately. Has anyone else had any luck with replacing the headlights I put in new fogs and no problem.

 

What headlights brand?

I spoke with the HR sales guy who confirmed with his tech guy that these will indeed work. I even mentioned that I recently installed their 9006 PerfectFit fogs and was so impressed that it made me reconsider getting rid of my newer Halogen Headlights bulbs.

Supposedly, these V.4 Lamps come with resistors packs built in to the package to prevent such matters of fogs not working. I even read a review on their site which someone mentioned their fogs not working after the SuperNova install. Maybe it was the V.3?

Sales guy said I should be good and confirmed it. Only time will tell and for sure I’ll post up the results. The PerfectFit fogs are superb by the way.

What fogs and headlights set up are you on?

 

I redid my entire stereo system. The previous owner had an aftermarket head unit installed with the JBL system but it never sounded good, always seemed like the gain was turned up way to much on the stock amp and you cant mess with it. I will add more photos later. The most time consuming part was running all the new speaker wire and fishing it through all the doors. I did not do a sub because i'm not really interested in a ton of bass and there isn't anywhere to hide one anyway. Overall I am very impressed with the sound and performance of this system.

Side story: Second day after I installed it I took my girls to a park and filled up my 60oz water bottle for us and left it in the passenger seat (amp mounted under passenger seat). This water bottle leaks if the gasket is not seated right, but of course I did not check to make sure it was good. Come back to my truck after an hour at the park to find water leaking from the passenger foot well onto the street. I immediately knew what was happening and freaked out. Approximately 50oz of water had leaked out through the passenger seat and directly onto the amp and then the floor!!! I thought for sure the amp was toast and started the truck up expecting smoke, but it was fine! Raced home and pulled my passenger seat out, soaked the water up and let her dry out in the sun for the afternoon.

I tried to go cheap and ordered beamtech headlights and fogs off of Amazon I'm thinking it is a resistance issue didn't want to mess with it so I just replaced the fogs and returned the headlights. I'm sure I will be ordering new ones in the next week or so I guess.

 

I installed the 4400NEX in the wife's 4Runner, they're a great head unit for the price. Glad nothing was destroyed from the water.

 

There is a ‘look alike’ SuperNova V.4, but its not the same chip inside per seasoned reviewers. I read a ton of reviews on these 9003 bulbs and seems like some are trying to compare to the V.4 for half the price, but some reviewers who have tried a ton of bulbs say they do not compare. Sure the light is good, but not great. Its a different chip and I’m sure the resistors are not as quality. Wire thickness and the jackets surrounding them play a big part.

To your point, the cheapos negatives are the longevity and the compatibility. Hoping these perform to reviews.

 

An old rapper named Too Short mentioned that series of amps in one of his songs, you should have known it would be fine.

 

They darken due to the relative humidity in the air and heat cycling. Also, noalox is more of a corrosion inhibitor for CU/AL connections.

Not to stir the pot, but the 1st and 2nd gen tauruses(taurii?) share almost every part. They're updated, but the cars are almost physically the same. The subframe out of the 3rd and 4th gens fit into the 1st and 2nd gens. They share a lot, and are physically the same, yet different gens.

Waiting on shocks ....... still . Rack bellows was torn a bit . Why in the crap do they call it a bellows , I mean it don't blow air , boot makes more sense.

 

Holy shit those are cheap. They're $30 EACH here in Canada....

 

The Katanas I bought are definitely a dead ringer on the outside to those down to the same wire and driver with a different label on it. Will be interesting to see if the internals last the same between the 2 brands since yours should be in in a relatively close time frame to my install. Should be a good comparison test!
