A mechanic here at work was bit by one in the calf. They had to remove a good portion of the muscle.

It took several years to get right with life. My thoughts go out to you John for a speedy recovery and no further issues with the wrist/arm.

Glock17 I am sorry to see that!! Did you get medical attention right away?
My wife works with a woman who was bit and her doctor told her there is nothing they can do. She ended up really bad like you and needed surgery.
Two weeks later my wife was bit and we immediately applied Brown Recluse First Aid Kit and also she went to our doctor who prescribed pills, a shot , and some cream....the bite immediately started getting better first off because we applied the first aid solution. First step is to start sucking out the venom.

We also keep the place sprayed with onslaught spider spray as well as some other pesticides and keep glue traps in every room....we dont have spiders here. My wife got bit somewhere else.

Sorry i dont know why there is a line under all of my post...??

I will be fine just with a nasty scar. I have heard of much worse when people do not get treated quickly.

Oh no...that freaks me out..even though I'm not afraid of spiders. Growing up we often caught huge black spiders and grilled them up...it's actually yummy...

However I never know how dangerous they are. We live out in the country and spiders are everywhere. What do we spray them with?

WOW. I lived in Harvest and got some "arachnophobia" going on. On the crapper in the middle of the night, got that feeling, and I turned the light on and there was recluse right by foot. I cleared taped that BR monster and took it work, and people freaked. That spider was huge and they are not supposed to get that big. It's body was the size of large rolly polly(?). People would stop by the desk just to look at it. I think the University of Tennessee has some great info on them, and they are pretty remarkable for a flimsy spider. Moved back to Colorado and guess what? They are here too. Not in big numbers, but they are here. Knew a kid going thru EOD school and got tagged on the finger. He almost lost it. I use glue boards in the home as a general rule.

DO NOT SPRAY! Not yelling. BR are a weak ass spider. They do not hunt, they scavenge. There toxin is a hemotoxin, and not neurotoxin like a black widow. In that, they feast on dead things, and the toxin actually destroys tissue so they can eat it. A black widow needs a neurotixin because they use a web to catch prey and then attack so they need a fast acting kill so they do not get hurt. The BR wound is a slow and painful process and not funny. Like I said earlier I got freaked out about these little bastards. Did a lot of reading.
If you spray you will remove all good spiders, and just create a giant buffet for BR and they will reproduce and then your infested. Glue boards, strips, boxes under your furniture, around your bed, etc...
Good info out there if you think you have any.

My buddy got bit by one about a month ago right on the chest. Thankfully he caught it early and it healed up pretty quickly and didn't do much damage. Hope you heal fast.

Rowdy do you remember the old military green cans of pesticide/insecticide? It looked like a can of starting fluid but green with white script and so freaking strong smelling?

I was stationed at Fort McClellan AL in '83 and we sick of the roaches and crap calling all over the place. I rummaged through the old supply closet and there it was, deep in the back...the can o death.

I sprayed a heavy foamy layer at the door seal and across the floor tiles, and all over my window frame. I left there in '84 enroute to "D", and I never saw a bug in my room or on my window screen from the time I sprayed until I PCS'd.

Went outside and sprayed some into the air and you could see it settle on the grass and talk about bugs un-assing the AO. It cleared the grass.

    Probably DDT based.
