What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

While I doubt this is the route you would find appealing, I am going to paint mine in bedliner. Just spray it off and I'll be good to go. I will be using white bedliner however so it doesn't look as dull/unfinished as just black all over would look IMHO.

And as a side note, any good body work man worth their salt is going to be doing some body work on your truck. While it looks to be in good shape, it is a 2003 and all the body work guys I know wouldn't let something leave their shop without it being perfect (especially for a complete paint job). I work in insurance and have had to deal with a lot of body work guys. Some are a pleasure, some are well... you get it.

how much are they quoting you and exactly what are they planning on performing? Many things go into that cost. Higher end quality paint/clear coat/even the quality of their equipment all plays a role and can add to cost.

 

I personally love the bedliner idea. I plan on doing that to my truck once I replace all the rust parts. I’ll be going with the full black though.

 

I have nothing against black, I hope it didn't come off that way.

I'm building a new prerunner style bed out of steel with my father in law. Will be doing that entire thing in black. The body will be white. I'll be doing the grill in black bedliner too at this point. And then I'll be doing the wheels in a dark bronze color. I think that color scheme will look nice

Haha will do. It’ll be a long while before I get all that done though. I’m still trying to get the mechanics of the truck sorted.

Exactly. I bought mine as an $1100 hunk of junk that barely went down the road. Now I have about $2700 into it total, it drives rarely decent, and has a shiny new frame.

 

I like that! I'm a bargain man myself. I brag about how much money I saved and the work I do myself.

FWIW I've never used it but Monstaliner gets good reviews for coating vehicles and is available in a bunch of colors.

From my research I'm going to go with U-Pol Raptor liner. Seems to be good for vehicles and the kit has a proper spray gun for the textured bedliner. Thanks for your suggestion though, I will look into that one!

 

Got new tires mounted on rims, not on truck yet. Cleaning rims , inside and out . Bought some oxyclean tire and wheel cleaner, not very effective , cleaned inside of one rim with purple power, works good if you let it set a minute, still needed a scuff pad. Outside cleans pretty easily with dawn . Am still waiting on shocks and a driveshaft disconnect and my new drivers seat bottom. Meanwhile while checking out front brakes, Notices what liiks and feels like hairline cracks in rotors. Am going to replace but oriellys had their brand which I do not want , they can get Bosch or AC Delco . Am thinking I can get performance type kit from a place like Carid for $360.00 to $400.00 . In comparison If, I went back with the best oriellys had to offer in a complete kit , I'd spend around $500.00 and that would be for reman calipers, questionable rotors and brake pads. I def wont do that . Carid's is just one place I looked but there a ton of others that offer kits that have slotted and drilled rotors, one that caught my interest is this Power Stop® - 1-Click Extreme Z36 Truck and Tow Drilled and Slotted Front Brake Kit with Calipers , on sale for $354.00 . what yall think?

 

I did the full Z36 kit. My truck did not come with the larger/better 13WL so I did that all at once. I have been extremely pleased with my results. Make certain to follow their break-in procedure and you should be very happy with them! Plus I think they look Sexay!

I purchased mine through Summit Racing. I love that site personally. Fast shipping and very helpful. Always easy returns from my experience as well.

Also to clarify, I did the caliper swap to the 13WL's since my old calipers were pretty bad. Instead of rebuilding I just bought that full kit.

 

That's a popular choice too. Folks I've seen that liked Monsta better were ones that weren't crazy about the texture of the traditional bed liner kits.

 

Gotcha, now that makes sense. I love that gritty texture. My area gets the winter road salt and I experience all 4 seasons here in NE Indiana. So the tougher the bedliner the better! And the more texture, the easier it will be for an amateur body guy like myself to lay this bedliner down and have it look half decent!

 

It still has some texture just not "gritty" if that make sense.

 

Yup. I got mine for the whopping price of free. I haven't kept track of how much I've spent, but it's probably about $3k, and about 60 hours of my time.

 

The last parts to the 1st stage of the build. More lights, some aluminum, some steel and injectors that've been waiting to install.

I need to get my tepui from storage in Truckee then get it up on the rack. Hopefully I can get the rack together and have a buddy up there help me load it. If I can’t get help, I’ll assemble the rack down here and need your help to get it on the rack. I can get the tent in and out of the bed by myself, just can’t hoist it up over the rack and position it. It’s only 120# but awkward lifting it up. It’ll be in a few weekends though.

 

I know black truck envy when I smell it

I have long considered painting mine with olive bed liner. Monstaliner makes a nice looking one. A guy on TS forums did it long ago in almost the Toyota dark green color, I can't find pics but when I saw it I loved it.

Rear bearing and seal out, fixing it tonight

I think I'm going to go with the Midnight Special MonstaLiner when I do it. It seems like it's fairly similar to the Cavalry Blue on the FJ Cruisers. I LOVE that color.

 

As promised, photos of me stuffing 285/70/17 tires in on stock suspension.

Please keep in mind I have KMC Enduros which from what I found online are 17x9. Offset -6mm. Backspacing 4.69 inches. I can’t gaurantee that is exactly what my rim is, but that is the info I found online for the 17 that fits our 6 lug tundra.

Anyway, onto the photos. Last photo shows the offset. This is *no spacers*. I do not experience any rubbing at all. I have not tried backing up at full lock, but I must have been very close to full lock.
