Canopy Fit for 2006 Double Cab

Anyone out there know if a perfect fit canopy from an access cab will also be a perfect fit for a double cab?

I seem to be finding conflicting answers, and any clarification would be much appreciated!

If there's a similar thread already that I somehow missed, apologies in advance...

 

While they are very similar, they are not exact fits. Also, you can tell because if you go to buy the same canopy for an AC or a DC of the same year, the manufacturers part #s are different.

If you try to make one work that was built for the other, looks wise it would probably work OK, but it will be harder to make it water tight.

I have a 2002 Access Cab and I recently purchased an ARE V series shell from a 2006 Double Cab. It is not an exact fit. There is a 1/2" gap along the front bed rail that is only visible from inside the bed.

From the outside it looks fine but trying to waterproof it has been a challenge.

 

@FirstGenVol the weatherproof issue is the big one for me, I'm going to add a platform style bed into the back for some quick camping trips.

I just realized you're trying to go from AC to DC. I'm not sure how that would work.

If you're planning to sleep back there I would hold off and buy the right fit. Keep in mind these can be painted fairly easily. Mine was originally salsa red.

 

Yeah, it seems like that's going to be the way to go. Having one that isn't an exact paint match isn't a big deal for me, and that seems like a better trade than having trouble with the weatherproofing...

 

One more tip. Even if you get an exact fit you'll have to invest in some weatherstripping made for these. My local ARE dealer sold me everything for pretty cheap. This is what the dealer would install if you were buying it new. I think you can also get it on Amazon.

Good idea. Have you found the weatherstripping to be fairly durable? Between using the canopy for camping, and getting dirt bikes in the back, I'll be taking the canopy on and off with a fair bit of regularity. I've been working on figuring out a way to raise and lower it from the ceiling. We'll see how that works out.

I'm planning to stick around, you guys have a ton of great build ideas that I've been drooling over!

 

It's hard to say how durable it is. I think if you were able to get it on and off by setting it down instead of sliding it then it should hold up ok. I don't think it would respond well having the weight of the camper repeatedly slid up and down.

 

Where in TN are you? I’d GLADLY buy that DC topper off you so you can find an AC one that fits better
