When will the 2018 Tundras hit the dealerships and will the 5.7 be replaced with a diesel engine? I need to figure out if I want to go with a 2017 Tundra now or wait and a lot of pages say the 2018 will not release maybe until early 2019? What do you guys think?

I wouldn't wait on the diesel tundra. If anything, you can trade in or sell your new tundra IF they do come out with one.

I doubt it will be a diesel but if you are able to wait you may want to. Going to be a few nice features

Even with a diesel, its still a ½ ton truck, so I doubt you'd see a significant increase in capacities, unless they also come out with an HD version. I looked at the diesel Titan when it came out and walked away asking why?

I agree on the diesel part as it is just a .5 ton. I doubt they will change the look that much if any as it sorta works and only changed a couple years ago. I need to sell my current 2012 plat and get a new 2017 or older 2016 left over might be a wise choice. Thanks for the replies.

I've been reading the Taco and Tundra diesel rumors for years. Who knows when, or if, it'll actually happen.

Even if the 2018 gets a diesel option I'd wait another year to avoid first year bugs.

I'm not sure what the 18' Tundra will be like. For all we know it could be a whole new drivetrain???

I'm with you man, I was about to drop the coin on a 16' GMC Duramax until the numbers came out on the 17' DM trucks.

Reading your post, first thing the naturally aspirated engine will not be replaced, a diesel would just be another option, which brings me to the question of why would someone want a 1/2 ton diesel. Our Tundras pull more than enough. If your looking to pull more, then a Tundra is not the right decision. I wouldn't buy a diesel period, but that's just my opinion. Wait for the 18, and see what if any changes they do to there power plant. It's been almost 10 years, and nothing is changed as far as power for the 17's

I'm going to agree with @ron23. You need a diesel in a 1/2 ton, time to get a bigger truck.

Wow! I asked the same question just as the 2016's were coming out last fall since all the in-the-know-people were certain Toyota would have the diesel available for 2017. Glad I bought the 2016 when I did because now I have a year of driving the best vehicle I've owned under my belt.

So I worked next to the TRD plant where they build most of their race vehicle. Yes, I know. It's pretty rad to work next to TRD! Lol.

I was at Subway and ran into one of the engineers for TRD and he mentioned something about the diesel coming out but didn't say much. I think it's in the making but it might be awhile.

I went and looked at a 2016 Tundra CM 4x4 and dealership wouldn’t come lower than $47000, not including TTL.... They also only wanted to give me $25000 for my 2016 Tacoma. I laughed and told them that it’s a year old once it leaves the lot and that I’d go to the other Toyota dealership where they had the same truck, except it was a 2017 and I got it out the door $44,000, with them buying my Tacoma for $30000.

    Great deal,

I am trading in my 2016 Tacoma 2WD TRD off road DC, they want to give me $30,000 as well, went to CarMax for a appraisal and CM appraised it at $30,000 too!

I have a chance to buy a 2017 Platinum 4X4 CM, under there Invoice and with their incentives for $46,818, I only owe $13,000 on the Tacoma so after all done and said I would pay after TT&L OTD around $32,000!

Vehicles sales are really falling off especially cars for now. Predictions are that trucks and SUVs will follow in 1 to 2 years. There are a ton of lease vehicles coming off leases puttin downward pressure on prices. Incentives will increase. Downside is your trade might be worth less that is unless it is a Tacoma.

Bumping an old thread as to not create another on the same topic.
Diesel engines on a Tundra are not of interest to me.

Now that that is out of the way, can anyone confirm that Cement will now be an available color on the Off-road?

Also, does anyone know when the 2018s will be hitting lots or can be ordered?

Someone posted a very official looking document showing that cement would be available as a non TRD Pro color. Also those sweet new LED headlights will be on the off-road trims as well. I don't have an exact date, but it's usually Aug-Oct when the new models hit the showroom

IF you wait for the 2018 I hear you get an extra faux hoodscoop.

And two faux hoodscoops is a 100% improvement over 1.

    2018-tundra-scoop.jpg

Just kidding, the new features will be cool... :)

Keep in mind all the new "safety features" coming standard on the 18s. Those systems might not be for everyone.

I see more harm than good with those systems. For instance, pre collision automatic braking could cause you to have an accident rather than avoiding the obsticle. What if you could veer left or right with a better outcome than panic braking? How will that turn out if you try to veer when all of a sudden the brakes are applied for you?

Or, lane departure warning... what if you need to dodge another vehicle or pot whole etc.

Or, dynamic cruise control... what if you are about to pass a car on the left and plan to get back over at a safe distance in front of that car. But there is a car in front of you in your passing lane going much slower. As you are about to get back over (while travelling much faster than the car you are passing), the cruise control system sees the car in front of you and slows you down. Now you are about to cut off the car next to you that you thought you were passing.

There are many more examples I can think of. Some I experienced myself in a rental corolla. I've also had these discussions with other drivers that had similar experiences.

JMO but these systems are flawed in some ways and they are just to pass new safety stankard. Just like when ABS became mandatory, some manufacturers put the cheapest systems that the ABS activates when braking gently over bumps. That is bad because now you are not slowing down since the brakes were barely engaged to begin with and the system doesn't turn back off right away. Again, I've had this happen to me.

Some people do like to be driven automatically by their car though. I guess that makes it easier to multi task.
