Clicking brakes

I'm getting a "click" almost every time I hit the brakes. Only one click, not a repetitive sound. I let off the brakes, move forward, then hit the brakes -- clicks again.

Assuming this is some sort of play with one of the brake pads, maybe due to an ineffective retaining clip.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it a symptom of a stuck caliper?

50k miles on original rotors, pads, and hardware.

Forgot to mention that the brakes recently started squeaking at slow speed, which may just be a coincidence.

 

My brakes squeal only one time in the morning backing out of driveway. They only squeal once and then don't do it again the rest of the day. Right now it is cooler in the morning so I'm guessing it has to do with temperature and possibly moisture building up on the rotor and/or pad. I'm not hearing any clicking when I apply the breaks. Is it an internal (inside cab) thing or are you hearing it outside the vehicle?

 

I only hear it with the windows down. It happens at precisely the same time each time I hit the brakes, even very lightly.

 

Loose caliper? Worn/rusty shim or spring? I'd have them inspected. Could be something in the suspension clicking???

 

I can hear mine rattling down the bumpy driveway at work. Done it since day one. Truck stops good so F it

 

I took my 2017 Tundra with 32k ish miles in to the dealership about these clicking brakes..and they told me that it’s normal. They checked everything out couldn’t find anything I had to take someone for a ride with me to show them what it was doing...he said yep that’s normal...I called BS but he said a lot of them do it smh. I looked at the pads before I took it up there just so they couldn’t hit me with the you need new pads but they actually said my pads were good but normal.

 

Mine does the same. Normal.

 

It’s the pads shifting in the calipers. Nothing to worry about. You could affix the backing plate to the caliper with some silicon type material like some guys here have but not worth the trouble if your brakes work in my opinion.

 

It's probably the pads rotating forward to strike the caliper recess. Normal, and a function of design clearance (necessary). It's a good thing...actual braking starts when you hear the "click". The retaining clip just keeps the pads "between the white lines"; free movement of the pads within the caliper is important to avoid excessive wear and overheating.

 

Mine does this. Only during cold temperatures.

 

My 21 does the same thing.
