    Hey guys,
I'm already looking forward to blowing my tax return on new suspension for my big-blue ox. I have read non-stop about 5100's, OME, Toytec etc and kind of had a want vs need epiphany this morning.
I live in a pretty remote location in the desert and usually go "off road" at least 2 times a week. Now, off road means different things to different people so my definition of off road as of now means desert trails and wash board roads. No rock crawling or anything like that. I would have bought a jeep or kept my 1st gen Taco if I wanted to do that.
I originally wanted to go with a 3/1 lift and get bigger tires so it doesn't look like my truck skipped leg day, but I honestly dont know if this would be a better option for me and what I use my truck for than just getting the TRD Pro setup and keeping my stock TRD michelins until they wear out. Either way, a OME or Toyetec 3/1 lift and tires is roughly the same amount or even a little bit more expensive than the TRD Pro shocks.
If you weren't concerned about looks, but performance on the type of roads that I go on, what would be the better option?

I would recommend going to a full replacement coilover. The Icon coilovers run a digressive valving in them which seem to soak up the washboard roads the best. The ride difference between the 5100/OME/TRD (all 2.0 diameter shocks) compared to a 2.5" shock is going be a nice and day difference.

Going this route you can essentially "build your kit" over time. Start with coilovers (which will allow 2" of lift without an upper control arm), then you can add upper control arms (allow up to 3" of lift and a little more droop travel) and rear shocks, etc.

Thanks for the info. Would a Icon stage 1 or 2 kit be fine then? I worry about buying "entry level" anything unless on the rare occasion that it actually is good stuff.

Yeah that would be fine. The rear expansion pack (leaf springs) will give the rear 1.5" of lift, so keep that in mind if you are looking for the level look. If this truck is something you are keeping for the long run, I would just step right into the stage 3. The 2.5" rear shock is going to give you more stability when towing and less body roll.

Thank you so much. That still is quite a bit cheaper than the TRD Pro setup. Good news. Do you guys sell that kit?
