Upon some research and budget I decided to go with the MBRP 3” cat back system, some complain of a highway drone. When I get it installed, if it drones bad I’ll fabricate a Holmholtz resonator. Nice to have a welder and plasma cutter hehe!!! Btw I got the system for $270 shipped.

I’ll be sure to take sound clips before and after.

Sounds like a great deal. Was that a sale price or just their standard rate?

I searched the part number and that’s what came up. I think it is a great deal.

I have had a MBRP dual catback on my truck for the last 4 years, ran the exhaust straight out the back.I find drone is minimal. Exhaust still looks good, sounds great, and seems no louder now than it did new.I think you will be very pleased with your choice, you definitely got a good price on it.

The helmholtz resonator won’t work with this system. The pipe size of the system is too big. It’s going to drone no matter what.

I had a MBRP cat back dual on my 2010 , biggest concern when buying was the drone If there was drone it was never enough to bothered me , I personally wouldn’t have a problem buying another for my 19. Tell us where you bought please.

I've been running my MBRP for almost 5 years now. LOVE it. I get compliments on it all the time. It does get loud when I'm towing and when I want to make a TRD Pro exhaust runner wet their pants... :)

I would recommend painting the connection hardware. Mine is rusted something terrible. Just zinc. I will have to replace the connecting hardware sometime but I'm testing how long it takes.. :)

The exhaust itself looks good on mine. Just the clamps look terrible.

I watch some YouTube videos and decided to built a helmholtz resonator and it kill the drone quite a bit. I’m not 100% sure it’s sitting over the hole. I will have to play with it tomorrow and get pics.

Ok so I finally had a chance to get under and make sure everything was lined up. I had a drone at highway speeds 70-75 at 1800 rpm’s. Searched the net and found a video of a guy who also had a drone at 1800 rpm’s. I basically copied his resonator. Went into the garage and found an 18” pipe 2” O.D., welded a cap on one end. The other end isa Half piece of 3” exhaust pipe with a 1 7/8” hole in center welded to the 2” pipe . Cut a 1 7/8” hole with a hole saw in the tail pipe just after the rear axle. As per pictures I found on the web. Clamped the resonator to that pipe lining up the 2 holes.
Test drive. Very lil drone at highway speed 70-75mph at 1800 rpm’s. At 80 it is totally gone. I am very very happy. The initial drone drove me crazy I was about to put stock exhaust back on.
    Hope this helps someone.

Not full but I did get on it hard on the highway, it dropped a gear exhaust pitch got higher sunk into the seat with no drone. Then I giggled lolol

Oh and by adding that it actually lowered the exhaust tome a lil. Sounds a lot better IMO.

Nice!!! I might do that to mine. Didn't want to drill a hole and it not work.... but if it works......

The engine 5.7 engine sweet spot to me is around 80. No lug. Everything is just a little smoother.

Could not agree more. They like more rpm’s. These arent 1970’s single cam 454 big blocks. 6th gear is too overdriven with 4.30 gears

I really had nothing to loose by trying it other than $270 for the kit. But I always could have welded a patch over the hole. But it did work the gamble paid off.

This is awesome! Thanks so much for the write up. For the price I just can’t justify over looking the MBRP and my only concern was the drone but now can get rid of it with this simple Mod.
