If only I didn’t have two car seats in the back, I’d be all over that long box version...

 

We are in the same boat lol..

 

I know it can be installed, and it will be eventually! Just don’t see the point spending the $700 or so on something I can’t really use.

All my recovery gear etc is in a waterproof bin in the bed. Not perfect but it works for now. The truck is my daily and more often than not the kids are with me when I’m driving. If something were to happen and I needed access to the tools or gear in there, the last thing I would want to do is take the kids out of the car seats, remove the seats, bases, etc while on the side of the road...

 

Yep, taking the seats in and out every time I needed something would be a PIA. I make it a point not to carry stuff around in the truck that I don’t need, other than a few emergency stuff. But emergency stuff does you no good if it’s not easily accessible.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s on my list of future mods. Just not the right time.

 

I have two car seats too and I did the long box. On the passenger side I put the "quick release" car seat (I can remove it less than 7 seconds, reinstall in about 11 seconds)..lol but it allows enough access to the whole contents of the box for me. I stow jumpers, jack tools and the least used things on the driver's side and not have to remove the car seat on that side... but I can still get to them because the long box is undivided and you can just reach in. It's just nice to have a place to put vehicle necessities and not have them be in your way of anything!
And sooner than later the car seats will be out grown!!! I'm shopping for my first booster!

 

I guess I’m just lazy haha. You guys are a bad influence. Trying to put the money towards new suspension first!

Unfortunately no boosters are in my immediate future. I have a 3wk old and a 2yr old..

 

And that’s why I have the three box. I still regret it though.

 

So, if I've already installed the plastic version and I want to upgrade to the long box, is that possible? From a dimensional standpoint. is the footprint of the long box comparable?

And why is there so much meat left on the bone front to back in all of these? After installing the plastic version and watching the vid on the long box install, it looks like there's another 8"+ going back that could have been utilized.

 

The modified seat brackets prevent a straight long box to be any deeper. The seats bolts in close to the long box and without the construction of a very complicated and laborious custom box to go around the brackets, which would cost even more $$$. I think the long box is awesome just the way it is and well worth it.
