Leveling Kit

Hey guys I am new to to the forum. I had purchased a new 2018 Tundra Limited Crew Max TRD and love it. One issue is the sound system sucks but from reading sounds common and will need to upgrade the speakers

The other thing I would like to do is a leveling kit. Since I would be running the stock 275-65-18’s for now I would only go 2” front 1” in rear. From looking at pics if I go anymore it would look much better going with larger tires.

Anyone have a pic with the 2” front 1” rear setup I would be going with? Is there a specific leveling co people have had better luck with? Down the road if I upgrade the rims and tires is it easy just to add another 1” in the front and rear to the leveling kit that would be installed?

How much do you want to spend? Economically, Bilstein 5100’s or 6112’s in front with 5100’s or 5160’s in rear. Next step up you could go with Boss coilovers for about $1000. Icon, Fox and king will cost some coin. Go with add a leaf or coachbuilder shackles in the rear. Try to stay away from blocks if you can useless money is an issue.

 

I wanted to keep it under $1k. I was hoping to keep it simple. I know nothing about the leveling kit but for around $500 for a 2” front 1” back the kits look basic with parts. Would like to get just a little more height with still running the stock TRD wheels and tires. Think they are 275-75-18

Level will either be 2” front/0” rear or 3” front/1”rear

 

If you want to keep it simple go with a spacer level kit I had run one on my truck for a year no problems just decided to lift mine up 6". I know alot of people do bilstens but it's not neccessary will it ride better maybe but I didn't notice a difference with my spacer lift on my truck

Just curious how much would it be for the O.P. to do a 3" with you guys ? I have heard great things for your products also.

 

Welcome and congrats on the new truck.

To level out the truck you would just lift the front 2". If you add a 1" block or shackle to the back you will have about 1" of rake.

Since you said that you would be keeping the stock tires for the time being, this is mine when I first had it leveled. 5100's in all corners, the fronts are set at the middle setting with 1 shim on each side (2" of lift) and the rear is stock height. I found that I was a bit nose high when carrying a load so ~8 months after this was taken I lifted the rear 1". If you just add 5100's to the front at the middle setting, with no shims, then you will still have a slight rake and may not need to lift the rear. A step up from the 5100's would be the Bilstein 6112s.

 

Toytec also has a decent Eibach setup. My Toytec ARB Old Man Emu setup is nice and keeps you under $1K.

 

Im in the same boat as the OP but thought I was settled on bilstein 5100s. I really didn't realize these spacer kits were just as cheap.

Is there really one method that is better/worse than the other?

 

Spacer lift ok if you don't off road....cheap for a good reason. Depends where you take your Tunny.

 

Im learning as well here. Why didn't you put the fronts at the top setting and forget about using the shim? So you'd have that much more travel in the shock for ride quality?

 

Thanks for adding this. I didn't mention that in my post . if you plain to off road do a good set up.my truck is a pavement queen. Won't even mud in it.

I think more like breaking the studs off on the spacers them selves. I wouldn't trust hard hit on them . but that's me.

 

As you know we have some crazies here that really romp their Tunnys as in go fast out in the AZ/Cali deserts. Totally different ball game and they have their suspension upgraded for that fun...

 

Spacers put a serious pre load.

 

Just an example this was my spacer lift but those are 6" . Got away from that didn't trust it put in lifted struts instead.

Originally I had no plans for going off-road and my intent was to only lift the front to level it and not change the back at all. The top setting on the 5100s would have made me nose high if I did not add anything to the rear and the middle setting was still not level so I added the shim.

Since then I've changed how I use the truck and soon will be swapping out the 5100's.

 

Man I wish I could pour that kinda money in to beat up my truck lol. Jk but yep I don't want to send the wrong info just all depends what OP is going to do go to the mall or ? Lol

For sure ! truck rides so smooth now. That preload was un real couldn't move the front up and down at all when pushing on bumper. Now if I hit a pot hole cant even feel it .

I don't go fast. I spend my time wheeling on old gnarly mining roads and jeep trails getting the occasional pin stripes.

 

My Tunny came with a spacer lift and I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Only because I knew where I was going to use it.

 

I'm a ToyTec fan boy. Not far from me and great people. Can't hurt to call ToyTec. Tell them your budget and what you plan to use your Tunny for. They won't sell you something beyond your needs. Remember.. ToyTec are Toyota specialists.

 

I need to get by and visit these guys. I did the inspection for them before they bought the building they are currently in. Had my old FJ then. Now that I have my new Tundra I need to see what they recommend.

I got the BOSS 1.0 (front only since I already had a 1” block in back) for right at $1000.

There are cheaper options for OP if he wants, but I chose the BOSS since they’re thread adjustable from 1”-3.5”
