I have seen one like one block away from where I was, but have never gone thru the experience of being impacted by one and knock on wood I never will. Be safe.

i hate tornadoes. having gone to high school in southern indiana and college at BSU, i've had my fair share. it's the only extreme weather that really scares the poop out of me.

And the not knowing when it's coming. At least a snow storm or hurricane you have days to prepare, but these guys come out of nowhere.

I'm not sure how I would feel if my tundra got in a hail storm.

My experience was that about 100 coworkers and I were just jammed in a low level hallway for 45 minutes. It got very hot and smelly. We were on the verge of establishing a "pee corner" and discussing who we would eat first if we were stuck there for longer. Outside it sprinkled and now it's sunny. No wind, no hail, barely any rain. Better than working though!

Stay alert, because they pop up fast in the mid west... warning systems are so much better today, but it pays to look at the sky.

I was in New Palestine a few years after the big outbreak when one went right through the middle of town traveling W to E down highway 52. It never touched down long enough to cause major structural damage, but it did strip most of the leaves from the roadside trees and paint the front of the buildings with a green slime.

This one came within a 1/4 mile of my house and 100 yards of my inlaws. I spent 2 weeks on emergency crews doing initial S&R, then cleanup. Missed my house but I had parts of others on my lawn https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_New_England_tornado_outbreak

A few photos from the park i manage now which was one of the intial points of impact.tornado damage5.jpg tornado damage12.jpg tornado damage1.jpg

We had some a few weeks ago just north of me here in FL. Sad because some of the victims had just relocated due to Hurricane Michael which was literally one giant Tornado itself. 6 months later and I’m still picking up random shingles out of my yard everyday and we have a metal roof...

Man that's awful I wish you and yours a full recovery at least I didn't see in this any one was hurt. Camper living is fun for about 2 weeks. Its devastating when this stuff happens .

I live in Tornado alley, central Oklahoma.

After seeing the devastation brought to Moore Oklahoma not once but twice, I am leery of storms.

I have a storm shelter, have become more weather aware so to speak.

My sister in law was caught up in the last one that hit moore, she was trying to get out of its path, had their 3 kids and dog with her, she ended up being flipped over and landed on its side, thankfully no injuries, they were in a late model expedition.

They can be impressive and awe striking but I have a deep respect for those storms and don't screw around when its tornado season.

I've been fortunate the last few years, they've all been too far away to worry about. Many years ago one went across the top of our house. It took the neighbor's TV antenna, a tree in our back yard, then went a couple of miles away and destroyed a cotton gin when it touched down.

    My tornado experience:

I was on a business trip to Canton Ohio with a female co-worker (1998?). While we were at the Vendor location, sky turned dark green... Sirens went off... and we were all shoved into a store-room for an hour or so. Women in there were wailing, "My Baby is back in the trailer with Grandma!!" My co-worker got kinda scared and grabbed onto me for the whole hour. We started "dating" that night and got married a few years later!
