I contacted a shop here about doing the 3/1 level lift with the Bilstein 5100. This is what he told me and I wanted to know if that sounds right because I dont know anything about this stuff.

"$831.96 parts and labor that's 3" front spacers with 1" blocks on the rear, bilstein shocks on the rear, alignment and tax out the door."

I assume he meant Bilstein shocks on the front?

spacers and 5100's are different. if you want 3" from the 5100's, you will need shims on top of coil (the 5100's only lift 2.25"). make sure you are not getting spacers. $830 for spacers is a rip-off. but for the 5100's, $830 sounds reasonable. the 4 shocks are about $400 and that would leave $430 for rear blocks, labor, tax, and alignment.

That's what I thought, when he said spacers. Maybe he just said it wrong?

Is that the best way to do it, shims on top of the coils (shocks). Is that even the same thing, ha.

Without spending a lot more money, is this the best way to go to get the lift, level, and still a really good smooth ride?

ya, confirm with him before you pull the trigger :)

on the tundra, the shock is inside the coil. the 5100's compress the coil to provide the lift. a spacer lift can either be on top of the coil or inside the coil. the most common is on top of the coil because its cheaper and easier to install. from reading on several forums, the spacer lifts suck and everyone says to go with 5100's instead of spacers. I cant speak to shims in addition to 5100's. someone else will have to chime in.

For myself, I was also planning on going with the 5100's for a lift. I think its the most bang for your buck on a budget.

    This is my little-unworthy input.

I did the 5100's on my '12 Taco, set @1.75 to level with the rear. Total cost $90 for alignment, $190 for front shocks, $0 for labor.

Result: I LOVE the look but it is STIFF. I can corner better but is is rough to the point that I tried to skip unpaved roads when kids are riding with me. To me, compressed the stock spring with the 5100's is "similar" as using the spacer below the top plate. The 5100's larger body has the advantage over the smaller stock billy's.

Future - Maybe a complete Coilover, like FOX 2.0 or Billys' 6112.....just bolt on and alignment.

Just check http://downsouthmotorsports.com/..and they have Billy's 6112 Coilovers set for $699. This is great deal....

I have and am replacing 5100 struts on the front end. I'm waiting for my ADS coilovers arrive. I did 5100's 'cause it was quick, cheap and I couldn't stand the factory rake. I don't mean any offense but comparing a Taco to a Tundra seems like apples to oranges, I could be wrong. The 5100, on top setting, is a little better than the stock "TRD Offroad" shock IMO. I too have read that spacers on top of your coils are not a good idea and I've seen pictures of bent Bilsteins because of the spacers. For shims and to get really knowledgeable advice, (far better than mine) contact Dave @ Coach Builders.

Litterally I just picked my truck from the shop with 5100 front on top setting, 5160 for the rear with toytec shackles set at top. It got me 2.5" front and 1.25 rear. I purchased the 5100 $215 for the set, 5160 $338 for the set, $180 for shackles, bushings, diff drop kit. All for $750. Trust me when I say I've called and priced out every possible options and this in my opinion was the best set. I've been told by many here to avoid spacers and blocks.... Local company, epic 4x4, installed everything including alignment for $390. My truck is a completely new beast now.... 20160923_093239.jpg20160923_093339.jpg20160923_093352.jpg

Very Nice! It looks really good. I know you said you just got it, but how does it ride so far? Also, if you wouldn't mind checking it out, what is the total height of your truck now? Thanks for all that information, I'll have to check it out and see what kind of prices I can get on everything.

Inferno, I love that color. I am waiting for Toyota to bring back Inferno Pro, but if they don't, maybe I should go this route.

    Check these out:

    http://4x4.fatbobsgarage.com/toyota-tundra-3-adjustable-coilovers-2007-2016-p23245.aspx

I have these installed with Bilsten 5100's and 1" shackles on the rear. I got the 700lb springs with these coilovers and the ride is perfect (I like a bit of feedback from the road, ride is stiff enough that control is maximized but it's not rough at all).

My total price was about what you would be spending on the full set of Bilsteins, and I feel the FBG coilovers are superior to the Bilstein 5100s for the front, but that is of course just an opinion. This is somewhere in between the Boss kit and the 5100s.

Install is relatively easy, need an alignment after. You could always find a shop nearby to do the install as well.

Also if you mention these forums they'll give you a discount. Just call and order over the phone to get it. =]

Think that image above is incorrect for our Tundra though. What i see is Part # 24-232173 has settings for 0", 0.87", 1.57" and 2.28" of lift.

AWESOME!!!!!! Been driving all over town, helped a church friend move with a 12x 6 covered uhaul trailer, drive over many sets of road bumps at my kids school.. I didn't expect to feel that much of a difference. LE ME TELL YOU, BEST UPGRADE SO FAR... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FEEL. It absorbs bumps really really nice, Just today alone I got complements from a UPS driver, neighborhood landscape dude, Kids violin friends dad, and starbuck drive through cashier.
My wife was originally against me getting a truck until she saw this color. It was done deal after that. I was told Inferno is no longer available, or at least for 2017 model..

I did lots of research and if your budget allows, I would highly recommend coils and shackles over spacers and blocks.

Boss is the best way to go. Both would work with 35's. If you have shackles you don't need blocks.

Just about 1200 for the BOSS.

Wish I would've done that in the first place. Threw away 200 on a spacer lift....live and learn huh?
