What the hell is this?

What is this? What does it do? Is it okay? Is it stock?

I have a remote start system...something to do with that? Was it a light? Looks like an old school mercury switch

 

It's a burnt out under hood light.

 

If it's not a light, it's a starter interrupt so a mechanic can't get hurt if you remote start the truck.

Follow the wire. Either it goes to the remote start module or the battery

 

That's a hood switch for an alarm system. Basically when the hood is lifted it triggers the alarm to go off.

Could be a tilt sensor for your remote start, mine is near there. doesn't look like a light bulb...

Either way, I'd cut it out.

 

Its so the remote start doesn't go when the hood is up and someone is in there working. Try popping your hood then using your remote start...

 

It's an Igniter for a Lazer Blaster........the gun has been removed.
