It has something to do with the incentives the dealer gets. If they buy it from another dealer they loose them. Its like having a middle man. Unless you negotiate a truck in stock and then make them get fet what u want.

I love the look of the sport but for me I could just wrap my chrome and get the grill for cheaper.

    Welcome from NY.
Get the Sport, everything is color matched already and you get a cool fake hood scoop.

Get exactly what you want the first time. The cost is stretched out over payments anyway. Personally though when I see the "you've been duped scoop" all I can see is a Tacoma. Nothing wrong with a Taco but way to similar for me.

I think that is one of those internet tales. I ran in to a Ford dealer once that could not get me the truck I wanted because the other dealer refused to trade with them. Out of the 3 new Toyotas I have bought 2 were dealer trades. Last Tacoma I bought was even a Baja which was the predecessor to the Pro and dealers normally would not trade them. Dealers would prefer you buy off their lot for various reasons and one is transport fees. When I bought the Baja the dealer paid to have it transported 200 miles. Did I pay for it in the price? Heck I don't know but I got it for the price I wanted to pay along with some extra incentive to close by the end of the month.

The Off-Road would be a far better bargain then the Sport. The Sport is a $6k+ option, and you still don't get leather or dual climate at least. If you are going to spend that much money, then get a Limited TRD Off-Road.

Sport however, is a different look if you don't like chrome. It looks a lot like the Platinum but at a cheaper cost.

In buying a car there is no such thing as good deal. They are making a big profit out of every single car they buy. On some more than others. But they always make a huge profit. I hate those stealerships. Just check on their buildings and the prime locations they paid to be there. That money comes from us. On a deal there are many numbers to negotiate and its up to the dealer to sell a car that they know or to sell a car with hidden history from another dealer. There could be many hidden issues. They will always try to sell one thats sitting on their lot. Thats money sitting there and always there is a better profit for them. I know they loose some incentives and won't count as a “real sell” for them. But there are dealers that will prefer to sell an off dealer car for some profit and on to the next one. Not all of them will. Anyways. 1. They always end up with a good deal. They never loose money. 2. We always pay more than fair 3. We cant do much except do the homework before going into the “back n forth” game. If they get u the car for the same then go for it.

Why do you say that? The Sport can be equipped OEM with items and features other trims can't. I own a TRD Off-Road Sport.

Sorry but that’s just the TRD sport package. Not the TRD off road package. Yes, they are both 4x4 though.
The TRD off road comes with 18” wheels and different suspension. Still a nice truck though!

This is what I have and includes the "Off-Road" package options.

    TRD Sport Package with options
    $6,000
    msrp
    • Deck rail system with four adjustable tie-down cleats
    • Entune™ Premium Audio with Integrated Navigation84 and App Suite74
    • TRD Sport Package
    • SR5 Upgrade Package
I know I don't have the 18" rims and tires, and it came with the Sport Tuned Bilsteins, but the rest is the same as the "Off-Road"

Gotcha. I believe they are two separate packages that likely contain many of the same features/ options. It’s all good. I could be wrong. As long as you enjoy the truck, that’s all that really matters.

Same goes for the OP, pick the one that has the options that interest you the most and will make you feel the best every time you get behind the wheel.

Unfortunately for us we can't put the TRD off road package on any truck like those in the US can. So you're going to have to pick which suspension you like the most - road tuned or off road. The off road is plenty comfortable on the road, and it's really not great off road in reality. You basically get to pick colour matched or chrome, along with 20" or 18". That's all that's different for us in Canada - so it's up to personal preference. One thing to note is I find dealers have more Off Road version on the lot so you may be able to negotiate easier.

I'm in the same boat as OP. I am looking for a silver SR5 crewmax. I wanted the LED lights and they're only on the TRD Sport/OR or limited and higher .So quest for a silver TRD OR. The TRD Sport caught my eye. Here is what I have found to be the difference. You get 20" vs 18", front and rear TRD sway bars vs plain front, color matched everything vs chrome/blckb, TRD shift knob vs SR5 stock, and different floormats. The TRD with the color matched rear bumper has the convenience package. Includes front and rear park assist, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, and color keyed rear bumper. Weighing the difference I'm Sport all the way because it has more of what I want. Can't go wrong with either one.

Another Canadian here. I love my Black on Black Trd off road . The thing drives like a dream. Originally the plan was to black out everything on the truck but the chrome is kinda growing on me. Once the weather warms up a bit I take off the decals on the bed sides and the SR5 logos by rear doors but think the bumpers and other chrome will stay.

Which ever one you pick I am sure you will be very happy with it .

Is the Pro Grille from the 17? If so did you relocate the safety sensor?

Any idea when these will be available? I've done some checking around, and these seem to be the only ones I like.
